"Beauty for Black Women"

While pricier personal care products tend to work almost like magic, blowing your entire paycheck on items you can’t really afford isn’t the only way you can tap into quality skin, hair and nail care. There are tons of brands carried in drugstores that retail at reasonable price points and will work well as supplements to your splurge-worthy items. Here are some of the best beauty products currently lining drugstore shelves.

"EOS lip balm"

EOS Lip Balm

Shea butter and jojoba oil are the active ingredients that make this lip balm ridiculously moisturizing. It comes in a variety of ultra feminine flavors like “honeysuckle honeydew” and “summer fruit”; and best of all–the shape fits perfectly in the palm of your hand, and is large enough that it won’t get lost in the bottom of your bag. It is 100% natural, paraben free, and petroleum free; and with its USDA Organic certification, it’s a product you can feel good about putting on your lips.

Walgreens $3.29

"Cetaphil cleanser"

Cetaphil Cleanser and Moisturizer

In the past Cetaphil was a brand mostly utilized by consumers with eczema and other issues of extreme dry skin. However, their cleanser’s formula is so gentle on the skin, and the moisturizer so supple without being greasy—that they’ve become a product that every girl can enjoy.

Wal-Mart $9.27

"Sinful Colors in daredevil"

Sinful Colors Nail Polishes

Sinful Colors are available in an almost overwhelming array of hues, ranging from deep dark blues to neon yellows. The depth of the color collections makes them great for mixing and matching colors—perfect for ombre or accent nails. Sinful Colors are Toluene, formaldehyde & DBP free.

Walgreens $1.99

"Neutrogena facial bar"

Neutrogena Facial Cleansing Bar

Neutrogena is a reliable skin care brand, and their fragrance-free facial cleanser doesn’t stray from that reputation. It’s a great deep cleansing bar that helps to clear acne up very quickly. It dissolves easily (which is great for your skin—no residue!), so you’ll run out quickly. But at such a low price, you can afford to restock often.

Walgreens $2.99

"Curls creme brule"

Curls Crème Brule

Though it is rumored that the formula for Target’s version of this natural hair care line differs slightly from that of the original product (which is still carried online), the result is still highly moisturizing and great at helping to define natural curls. For best results, use in tandem with a curling smoothie or pudding.

Target approximately $10

"Neutrogena sunblock"

Neutrogena Ultra-Sheer Dry Touch Sunblock

There are No. White. Streaks. Ever. with this drugstore brand sunblock. It is super light, so you don’t feel like you’re wearing a second layer of moisturizer; you don’t have to worry about sweating it off; and you won’t see those pesky white streaks across your skin that can remain even after rubbing in other brand’s product for what seems like hours. It ranges from SPF 30 all the way to SPF 100 so you’ll have no problem finding the perfect coverage.

Wal-Mart $7 – 11

"Cos Bar cleansing towelettes"

COS Bar Cleansing Towelettes

Cos Bar cleansing towelettes are super soft, they smell delightful, and they get your face clean of makeup without making it feel dry. They even come in really cute packaging to boot! What’s not to love?

Target $3.50

"ELF" eye shadow booklet

ELF Cosmetics

Eyes Lips Face (ELF) Cosmetics has existed online for years, and though the product pricing was super affordable, you’d often end up paying more in shipping than the total of your purchase. Enter their partnership with Target, and they’ve become a budget babe’s lifesaver. They produce a wide range of products including a range of eyeshadow colors and palettes, as well as a liquid liner that goes on smooth and dries quickly so you worry less about smudging.

Target $3 – 10 for most products

This site is so annoying, I can not visit for longer than 2 minutes. Too tedious and too many interruptions with advertisers. Bye

  • Love sinful colors ( use a silicon top coat & it lasts for weeks) ELF cosmetics r bomb especially their 1$ lashes and cheap setting spray.

  • Lucky502

I love my high-end brushes but there’s something about finding a cheapie brush that does the job well. I really like ELF brushes.

    • realtalk

I wasted so much money on MAC brushes only to find out that sonia kashuk brushes at Target are my absolute fav! They are a little more pricier than elf, but more than half the price of MAC

      • Lucky502

Yes, I have some SK brushes in my stash. SK is most def the bomb!

Well I’m presently using the Neutrogena bar(face) soap. I’m also a user of the sinful nail polish. It does chip easily as I read some one else posted. But the array of colors are fun & it’s only 2bucks. ___my moment of rachetness- I stood in one Walgreens & painted every nail a different hue. I’m glad the sales rep waited til I was finished before she mentioned I shouldn’t be doing that. Well I knew that much but I did it any way. SMH @ Myself. I wont give up my FAV color. Looks so great on my toes.

  • Honest Critique

Sinful Colors polish chips too much. Only use it with a good base coat.

    • Lucky

It seems like it starts chipping as soon as it’s dry. lol. You’re right, a good base (and top) coat works wonders.

I started using Elf about 5 years ago and I’m so glad I can now buy it locally. Will have to try some of these other products

  • GG Renee

Great list. I’m familiar with some of these but not all, and they all meet a need that I have. I always welcome beauty finds that are budget friendly. Thanks for the ideas!

  • DMisses

This list is wack. I’ve never used or even heard of some of these products. I don’t know why I was expecting a list with items like Palmer’s cocoa butter, Burt’s Bees lip gloss or great lash mascara!

    • Xxdiscoxxheaven

Is the point to educate you? Why would you read to learn about products you already use?
