Did He Cross The Line? Wayne Brady Cracks Joke Using Sarah Palin’s Son With Down Syndrome

Wayne Brady rolled into dangerous 50 Cent territory the other night. I’m not talking Southside Jamaica, Queens, get shot nine times in front of your house danger, I’m talking making a reference to special needs individuals while cracking a joke in public.

The “Let’s Make a Deal” host was a part of Comedy Central’s recent roast of Roseanne Barr, but the laughs died down a bit when Wayne turned the jokes on fellow comedian Jeff Ross. He told the stand-up comic:

“Now the thing is Jeff … these are all jokes, and I really like you. I really, really like you. But a lot of people hate you, especially Sarah Palin because you remind her of what Trig is going to look like when he’s 40.”

Ouch.

There were some laughs from the crowd — and Jeff— but they were drowned out by the overpowering boos. Wayne Brady didn’t care though, he got a little buck in his response and told the audience

“Oh, now you boo me? F**k y’all. I don’t want to hear that. These people say all of this s**t about me, and you boo me because of Trig?”

OK then.

When 50 made his special ed joke about kids with autism, Holly Robinson Peete diplomatically put him in his place with an open letter. So far, no on has come for Wayne Brady’s head, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they do.

    No it was a roast and that is what happens people get made fun of no big deal. I didn’t say kill the kid he cracked a joke. I feel comedy is not the same anymore no one wants to laugh just wanna take everything personal and god forbid you crack a joke about gays. I have been to shows that i have been offended. but it’s comedy the only place you can laugh and not be held responsible. lighted up america

    There shouldn’t be any censorship when it comes to comedy. That’s the point of comedy, its supposed to push boundaries. As long as the joke is done the right way, then there shouldn’t be a problem.

    Way over the line with Brady comment. It is time we boycott his show or get him off the air. I thought he had more class than this and would NEVER ATTACK or say something so HURTFUL to attack a child……especially since he has kids of his own. VERY VERY INSENSITIVE and he just dropped down a few notches in likeability.

    I remember Martin Lawrence used to make fun of “slow” kids all the time in his stand up routines, and people laughed their asses off. The only reason why they are shocked now is because Mr. Brady used a real person. If it’s wrong, it’s wrong…period!

    i actually thought it was pretty funny. wayne brady didn’t say “hey you’re so ugly, jeff, you look like someone with down syndrome” he just said “jeff, you look like sarah palin’s son trig at 40″. and he’s right, they do look STRIKINGLY alike. it’s not at all like 50 cent saying “i don’t want special ed people on my timeline” because that was just rude and ridiculous. wayne’s just saying he looks like the guy, get off his case and laugh.

    I love Wayne Brady but I can’t explain this. Sorry but real children who are special needs should be off limits. I don’t understand why that’s such a hard concept for some to grasp. If you need to insult children to be funny, chances are it’s not going to be funny and you should be called out for it.

    Yes he was wrong all children should be off limits. If someone made a remark about his child i’m sure it would upset him. Don’t do or say something that you wouldn’t want done or said to you or about you.

    Not funny to me at all. You don’t make fun of someone who cannot help the way they are. Wayne Brady has been in the business for awhile, he should have known that wasn’t going to go over well.

    Any child, whether developmentally delayed or not, should be off limits. I’m no Sarah Palin fan, but WB was definitely wrong for using a child as the butt of a joke.
