Bet You Didn’t Know: Secrets Behind the Making of “House Party”

Who’s the director?

Reginald Hudlin was fresh out of college when his film was picked up by New Line Cinema. House Party was actually the film he wrote as his senior thesis at Harvard. Inspired by the rise and influence of Hip Hop in popular culture, Hudlin said he wanted to write a movie that incorporated this art form. He also originally wanted the film to encourage kids to use condoms to combat the AIDS epidemic that was on the rise in the early to mid ’80′s. The film was popular on campus and eventually it caught the attention of a junior executive at New Line Cinema.

They should definitely leave this alone. The first one was a classic and although them brining in some of the original cast members, the chemistry and dynamic would be different because they all have gone in much different directions, especially Play. Furthermore, who would represent the new school? That would be the biggest issue. I say let it rest.

Oooh…if number 5 happens the way it’s supposed to (as described in the article), I see good things afoot…#excited. OMG I’m too ready to chill out and watch House Party and House Party 2 now!! 3 and 4…not so much.

it would be the first black comedy i’ll genuinely enjoy since undercover brother.

Normally, I would say stop with all the sequels and leave the classic alone…again, but if it’s New School versus Old School (including original cast members), I so be down to see that (and in a theater, too)!

  • WhoMe

Oh la oh la ay! I think they should leave it alone. The first was the best.

I would watch HP5 if the original players were in it and the original director. He gave us a great image of black people and let all audiences know that we are not just gang bangers and hoes.
