Sounds like the most popular “Real Housewife” reality star on Bravo isn’t ready for her own reality show yet.
Last year, rumors began that NeNe was going to have her own reality show shot in L.A. called, “I Dream of NeNe”. Now, those reports have been confirmed according to LALate:
NeNe Leakes was pursued for a spinoff series called “I Dream of NeNe” by producers of Real Housewives of Atlanta
In March 2011, the United States Patent and Trademark Office issued a trademark for new reality show project entitled “I Dream of Nene”. The mark was issued for “entertainment services in the nature of a reality television series”. And who sought the trademark? The applicant for the mark was True Entertainment LLC, the production company behind Real Housewives of Atlanta and Don’t be Tardy for the Wedding.
In fact, the mark was issued at the same time that Atlanta news was claiming that Bravo was considering spinoff series for the cast RHOA members.
Leakes in February at the time said “I have had many offers since 1st season but it has 2 b the right thing.” In March, Leakes told followers that she had been offered a reality show but had turned it down. She said she had “been offered” a spinoff but prefers “acting & talk show hosting.”
So will I Dream of Nene ever be produced? Because this trademark application is a “1B” type application aka “intent to use”, the trademark owner True Entertainment has to provide evidence of its use of “I Dream of Nene” in commerce in the coming months, or seek an extension from the Trademark Office. If it doesn’t, then hopes for “I Dream of Nene” could be two blinks from disappearing into a bottle.
So, why would NeNe turn down the reality show spin-off? Some were saying that it was slated to showcase NeNe’s newly single life in LA (as opposed to married life in Atlanta). Well, after reports that NeNe and Greg are working things out, that premise isn’t going to work and maybe that’s why she’s decided she isn’t ready for a reality show yet.
It also could be because she has too many other things going on. She’s already the star of Real Housewives of Atlanta, she’s starting her own clothing line, she has a recurring role on Glee and she’s castmember on the upcoming NBC show “The New Normal”. Apparently she definitely needed to say “no” to something and her own reality show was it. So, for those dreaming of getting a peek into NeNe’s life via her own reality show? Dream on.
Are you disappointed to hear she may have declined a spin-off?
