We have no clue what 29-year-old LaGuardia Community College maintenance man Harley Joseph is doing in that picture but it looks suspect—much like the behavior that cost him his job earlier this year.
The NY Daily News just exposed the now-unemployed janitor’s creepy fetish after city investigators found out he offered a high school student “as much money as she wanted” to allow him to suck her toes. Here’s their account:
The victim, a student at Middle College High School, which is on the LaGuardia campus, said that Joseph first approached her in November 2011 and asked her for a lunch date.
The girl refused and wasn’t bothered by the stocky janitor again until February, when he cornered her on a campus patio and asked her if she had “nice feet,” investigators said.
Then Joseph made a sick proposition, offering her $100 to “allow him to suck ( her) toes,” investigators said.
She refused, so Joseph took out his wallet and offered her “as much money as she wanted,” investigators said. When that offer was rebuffed, too, Joseph allegedly offered to take the student to an ATM, where he would withdraw even more cash.
She said no again, and Joseph turned violent, grabbing the girl by the wrist and leading her to a place “where no one would see them,” according to investigators.
The girl broke away and reported the incident. Police began an investigation, but dropped it after learning that Joseph had already been transferred, investigators said.
The Daily News says the incident exposes a potential issue with the privatization of maintenance forces on some public school campuses in New York City, saying these individuals aren’t subject to the same type of background checks that the city provides for college staff. I’m thinking this is yet another cautionary tale of the type of creepers young women need to be on the lookout for, especially when attending a high school that shares a campus with a college—even though Joseph wasn’t a student. I would say be careful who you wear sandals around but since Joseph rolled up on the teen in February when her feet were covered, it’s just best to keep a safe distance from strange men altogether. This is just weird.
