Tip #2: Be human. Sometimes people get sick. There was an unexpected plumbing issue. Life happens. Showing compassion fosters loyalty, which comes in handy when you need to ask the crew to go the extra mile. (And it’s simply the right thing to do.)
But! Don’t be a pushover. There are people out there that are looking for ways to get over. There’s always a morning commute snafu that causes a 30-minute delay or a sick grandmother that needs tending to. A firm warning to those trying to take advantage might be in order.
