In case you’re wondering if Drake’s obsession with Aaliyah has subsided….it hasn’t.

This weekend, the rapper will premiere his new track featuring Aaliyah at the OVO Festival in Toronto and according to HipHop DX, he’s the executive producer of the late singer’s upcoming posthumous album:

A reliable source with inside knowledge of the situation told HipHopDX that the Young Money rapper, who has a tattoo of the songstress on his back, will sit at the helm for her new LP. Details surrounding the album are scarce, but in March, producer Jeffrey “J. Dub” Walker said that an unreleased song titled “Steady Ground” will appear on the project. Aaliyah’s brother, Rashad Haughton, later said that no such album was in the works.

In late March, Drake hinted to Tim Westwood that he had some “special things” related to Aaliyah in motion. “I have some great Aaliyah news coming soon,” he said. “Just some special things. Just gave you that, just a little. Because I said, I’m with Westwood, so I can’t not. But great things, great things for music, period.”

For the rapper who never even met Aaliyah, apparently a tattoo of her face, upcoming single, potential album, earphones, and other tributes he’s done in her memory aren’t enough. Drake just got another tat in honor of the singer. Located on the side of his rib cage, it says ’416′ which is Toronto’s area code, as well as 116, for Aaliyah’s January 16th birthdate.

Besides proving to the world that he is Aaliyah’s Greatest Fan, Drake is nearing completion of another decidedly saner goal this summer.  According to That Grape Juice, the 25-year-old told Now Toronto that he’s working toward his high school diploma:

I’m actually spending my summer graduating high school. That’s my main focus after OVO Fest. I only have one credit left, and I’m really excited about that.

Most people who have been successful in their career wouldn’t even bother going back to school, so he definitely gets some cool points for setting that example. He’s going to need those cool points too because that Aaliyah obsession has him all out.

What do you think about Drake’s fandom? Are you glad to hear that he’s finishing his high school education?

I think that is alarming behavior. Its one thing to be a fan admire someones gift and talent. But to permanently mark your body because you are obsessed with the person is an indication to the fact you need professional help.

What is he trying to prove? He just want some attention.

I loved me some Tupac, but I am not blasting name or face on my body. But then again I was thinking about naming my first born after him….LOL. but don’t worry, baby daddy was not having it…THUG PASSION…smmfh

Exactly. But I guess he can be obsessed since she’s dead. It’s a creepy unrequited love thing. He just needs to stop doing collaborations with dead people. I know music is bad right now but let her rest.

  • Mia

Creepy! If she were alive I’m sure she’d have a restraining order on dude.

I actually met Aaliyah a couple times when I was little and have her autographs, which I cherish. She was a sweet person and unless you’ve seen her in person you have no idea how stunning she looked.

RIP Aaliyah, I can’t believe its almost been 11 years…

I’m glad he’s finishing high school, but this obsession has got to stop. Seriously. Maybe he thinks she’s the perfect woman (made more so since she’s gone and can’t tell him to stop), but he’s getting a little out of hand. They better make sure she’s still in her resting place.

Isn’t this the same person who got mad when that chick got his name tatooed on her forehead but you go & tattoo Aaliyah on your body & you never even met her. Hey pot- let me introduce you to kettle. Drake please have several seats…

He needs a new PR team because he talks too damn much! I feel like I know him all too well.

Actually he didn’t get mad at all. It’s real, that love she haves for me and he acknowledged that. He didn’t however have some terse words for the artist

Glad that he’s getting that diploma! GREAT look! I miss the “old” Drake, the one that wasn’t worried about the media, the flashiness, the one that was A LOT more humble, and whose lyrics had real meaning. I hope this Aaliyah project that he’s said to be working on brings those traits back out of him, but I really wish Missy & Timbaland were producing it!!

    • Kenedy

Yeah, i miss the Octobers finest Drake
