Did Chris Bosh Really Claim Texas Residency To Avoid Paying More Child Support?

August 1st, 2012 - By Brande Victorian

I know a lot of people were on the fence about Chris Bosh’s ex-girlfriend applying for food stamps after claiming the $2,600 she receives each month in child support isn’t enough for her and her child to survive, but the Miami Heat player is going to extreme lengths not to help Allison Mathis, not to mention his own daughter out, as she struggles with being unemployed.

The Miami Herald has uncovered court documents Chris filed in Orlando claiming he is actually a resident of Texas, not Florida. Why? Supposedly to avoid an increase in child support. Despite having a 12,000-square-foot home with a Biscayne Bay view that he bought in 2010 for $12.5 million, Chris wants the courts to believe he really lives in a 1,900-square-foot house in a lower middle class suburb of Dallas worth about $73,000. The Herald put the $18 million annual salary-earning NBA star on blast, writing:

“It’s all about the benjamins. Bosh, 28, is trying to hold on to an order from a judge in his native Dallas that he pay $2,600-a-month for the little girl he had with former live-in girlfriend Allison Mathis.

“Should he be declared a Florida resident, Bosh — who is now married and has a son with his wife — could be ordered to pay 3 percent of his monthly take home pay, about $30,000 a month!”

That would definitely change Allison’s tune, but in the same way that Chris halted her earning potential by blocking her from joining “Basketball Wives,” he’s also working overtime to make sure she never sees that $30K/month. Allison’s attorney, Jane E. Carey, said:

“He’s fighting like a dog to remain a Texas resident. It is just not true that he lives in Texas. Even his son was born [in May] in Miami.”

A hearing on the matter has been scheduled for late August and I imagine Chris will be spending ample time in the lone star state between now and then to keep up his Texan charade. Somehow, I’m fairly certain a judge will still be able to see right through it.

What do you think about Chris’ move? Is he right to try to stop Allison from getting more child support?

My mother was only given $120 a month in child support for me, and she never complained. All of it went to me and she worked to take care of my needs. Not only that, but my father took care of my health expenses and school. I was also blessed with anything i could possibly want and need. The lesson of this story is that she is receiving more than enough child support, especially if he is paying for major expenses. She just needs to get a job and form some type of independence. There are women out here that receive close to nothing, but still make sure their children are well of BY THEMSELVES. I don’t understand why a women wouldn’t take the opportunity to better herself anyway. Especially if he is paying for it. She’s very bitter and it shows.

If your mother was only given $120 a month in support, that must have been back in 1980! This is 2012 and things are expensive. I live a great life with my husband and we have 3 kids. He also has a child from another relationship. When my husband received a huge promotion at his job, our lives changed for the better. The child support he was giving the baby mom increased-as it should have!!! If we are living a great life, going on vacations, why shouldn’t he get some of that? What his mom decides to do with the money, we have no control over that, but we are doing our part and his son will not be homeless!!

In U.S. Custody Cases involving minor children, Mom gets the kids 91% of the time; Not half the time, or 75% of the time, but fully over 90% of the time, period!

If Dad had custody of his child, none of the hearsay this knucklehead writer brings up would mean a thing (not that it does anyway) but critical to understand is that those people employed by the Family Law and Child Support Collection Industry in Florida are earning nothing off the guy and they want to change that; bottom line!

See, if they nail him in Florida, that State will carve out at least 2.5% of collected support for “administrative fees” and her lawyer is going to use that as incentive for the Court – not the parties, but the Court – to file for “change in venue”, I can smell it!
Its all about money, nobody said a WORD about the mythical “Best Interest of the Child” except the father!

  • jaimuziq

He is a poor excuse for a man, he’s a millionaire and doesn’t have a problem with his child being on welfare smh. He won’t always be able to play basketball, karma is a b*****

  • pfft

Why should he have to pay her 30k a month? How about she get a job to supplement what she is already being given instead of trying to leech off of this man. If I was him and they ordered me to pay that much, I’d make it so she could never touch it. 90+ percent would go into a trust for my daughter. That’s what a lot of these athletes rappers need to start doing. I’m a woman and I’m sick and tired of women who make their living being groupies and having babies.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way. Child Support does not have to be claimed as income by the recipient, and the payor cannot claim it on their income tax as an expense. Likewise, the recipient doesn’t even have to provide receipts for what the money is being used for; its a nightmare, trust me! Someone like Bosh – or me, for that matter – cannot designate what the child support can or cannot be used for; she could spend it ALL on a car payment, and there wouldn’t be a damn thing he could do or say about it. Again, its a nightmare

  • E-GO

Texas law states a parent pay 15% of his salary for child support, so 15% is not $2600….I don’t even now how he’s getting away with that…

  • Royaltee

This Allison woman is pathetic. $31,000 a year is more than enough to take care of a child for a year. Also to she keeps the child from him and feels a sense of entitlement because he’s rich she shoud be rich FOH!!! SHE AIN’T HIS WIFE!!!!! If she really cared about the well being of her child until she gets herself together she’d let the child live with him! then the child will have all the same advantages as his son! But we all know that’s not what this is about SMH! This should be a lesson to all ladies don’t be pushing out no babies for no man that don’t wanna marry you! I’m sick of this story and Madame Noire you need to do better and stop siding with this chick. If you’re gonna report the story report the whole story don’t just Bash Bosh because he appears to be a good dad that had a baby by a lazy bum!

    • http://twitter.com/PepperAnnna PepperAnna

Oh please! Whatever his SON gets, his daughter should be able to live a similar lifestyle. Why should she suffer?

  • NiceNasty

For what I understand alot of players only live in the city that their team is only during playing season, but as soon as off-season comes they go back to their “home” which more then likely their homestate. So I can understand him saying that is his place of residency, but one thing that I have a problem with is all of these people that is jumping on the babymama’s band wagon and don’t even have all of the facts. This man is doing all that he can for his child that by the way he hardly ever spents time with because of the babymama. It sickens me that she feels like jus because she had a kid with a ball-player that she don’t have to do nothing but sit on her a$$ and collect money due to that sole purpose. And don’t give me that she got laid off crap, because she was working for a construction company that we all know is not promised to anyone. That is like a temp job, cause they can lay you off anytime they feel, or when the construction is up so is the job. They tell you that BEFORE you go and work for them, so that is some bs. Let’s not take into account that she been traveling back and forth to court in more then 1 state fighting this man, knowing she don’t have no money. I mean really, who does that? The proof is in the pudding that this chick is jus after money so she can keep up this lifestyle she feels like she deserve jus for having this mans child and it don’t work like that. She should’ve took her a$$ to school and got a degree or learned a trade while she collect that money, used his connections to get her a good job and make her own money. Then she can rock whatever she wants cause it’s her money that’s buying it, duhhhhh!!!! It’s simple as pie!!!

I’m reading some of these comments and I’m SMH!!! I remember Reading about Chris and Allison a while back, he was happy she was having his baby, they even planned the child! My thing is the people on here slandering Allison like she some lazy bum is so unfair and y’all are only saying that cause Chris Bosh got money so some of y’all are painting her out to be some Gold Digger! If this was a ordinary dude with a 9 to 5 y’all be calling him a no good deadbeat n***a! But because he got a lil bread then she’s lazy and just after his money, FOH!!!!!! Even though he pay her that 2000 or something a month, my understanding she lost her job, so of course bills start adding up along with mortgage! I think they’re daughter deserve just as much of a silver spoon up bringing just as much as her lil brother! I can’t stand these brotha’s who get with the new chick and start acting brand new, knowing if he was a regular dude that Adrenne chick wouldn’t give him the time of day! If she struggling on her mortgage then he should help out because his daughter needs a roof over her head! I honestly think that he’s doing so much spoiling his new family that if he gave his ex more money then Adrienne will have a fit she seems like the type that will go off if this child support start taking away from her designer shopping trips! He needs to get it together! Just my opinion!

    • um

She IS lazy! A stipulation to get more child support: Go to school and get your degree( better your self and be a role model to your daughter) with HIM paying( a win/win). All that means is eventually you would be making your OWN money and the CHILD support would actually be used on the child. He didn’t make her lay on her back. If she was smart she would have done what his wife did and got THE ring before having a baby. She can get a respectable job like any other single parent( no BBW doesn’t count, them heffas have NO sense of pride).

Considering he’s from Dallas Texas it’s not that big a deal. If he was from Ohio but claiming Texas that would be a red flag. Since he’s from Texas- not that big a deal.

When your married (keyword) you get certain benefits. (I can’t speak on Adrienne b/c i don’t know much about her, i don’t think i ever heard the woman talk) but As his wife, his money is her money. She’s maintaining the home while he’s working to bring the money home. If they were to get divorce she’ll get child support & alimony. Ex girlfriends don’t get all that lol. His ex can’t live off his money anymore because she’s his ex (keyword). The money that she receives is for their child. She needs to earn money to take care of herself. It’s good that he wants his ex to better herself. Nothing wrong w/ that, especially when he wants to put extra money in your pocket while your working to get there. Just b/c your man calls you “wifey” doesn’t mean you are or ever was a “wife” so you don’t get certain benefits.

  • Ms_Sunshine9898

If he’s paying for all of the other expenses of his child (tuition, nanny, health care, entertainment, etc) in addition to an extra 2700 to the mother, what difference does it make of his decision to list his residence that keeps during the off season, as his main home and he buy a nice comfortable home to use when he’s working in Miami? He’s taking care of his child, not his baby mama! She is a grown woman who had a child and she should be responsible for her own expenses. If she really cared about her child’s well being, she’d allow her daughter to stay with her father until she get’s back on her feet. We’re quick to put this man down because he’s taking care of his child and not funding his baby mama’s life style. If he’s paying for all of her expenses and providing child support regardless of how low it is, does that mean his baby mama really needs all that extra cash which she will clearly spend on herself and maintaining her life style as she clearly can not afford as evident by her desire to join basketball wives of all income avenues? Let’s not forget this is the same woman who turned down an opportunity to get more child support contingent she went to college and got a degree, which Bosh said he w would pay for. . . I’m not even mad at him. . .

    • candie

You only see him with his new family and that is what saddened me. I hope his new wife somehow influence him to play a part in his other child’ s life. She looks like a selfish witch for allowing this to prolong. as a woman, she should understand how expensive children are.

      • Ms_Sunshine9898

that’s true but remember how he was saying that allison was giving him a hard time seeing his daughter. i think people are dragging his wife into this because they need some to blame for him making the choices he made, especially since he married another woman who had his baby shortly afterwards and now she’s decked out. I’m just saying, why do we jump on the hate him band wagon despite the facts. . .

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=551680935 Eric McDaniel

It’s called “Child support” not “baby mother” or “ex girlfriend” support.

  • MiMi

This should be a SUPER RED FLAG for his new wife, granted she has the sense that the good Lord gave her. The same knife that will stick a goat will stick a sheep!

    • Bishop

all the dumb comments on this blog, Chris Bosh always had Texas residency he’s from Dallas, TX and maintains a house there in the off-season. By the way he is paying and always have been paying his court ordered child support.

      • http://twitter.com/blew2002 Renna Lea

Thank you for setting these BBB’s straight with their bitter, left behind a**es.

  • Trisha_B

Maybe he’s gonna pull a fast one. Like maybe he knows his baby mama is not using the money wisely & doesn’t feel comfortable giving her any more child support money. So he may pull a Dwayne & file for custody. Or at least get more rights w/ his daughter (since she’s not allowing him to spend a lot of time w/ her).
It’s not like he’s a deadbeat father. His lawyers put it out there that he pays for his daughter’s healthcare, schooling, & everything concerning his daughter on top of the $2,600. He also gave Allison $250K cash. & he offered to give her more money if she went back to school to get a degree so she could get a better job, but she declined. He’s doing all of this (like a father should), but he’s not even able to spend a lot of time w/ his daughter. It’s easy to bash him & go along w/ what the blogs are saying b/c he isn’t talking like Allison.

    • http://twitter.com/blew2002 Renna Lea

Thank you my sister for bringing some sense to this topic. Very refreshing.

  • http://twitter.com/MsRedboneBrite Tee Elyse

God don’t like ugly!! Prayers go out to Allison because this “man” know he as wrong as two left shoes!! I mean, he shouldn’t be paying her mortgage, but $2,600/mo when you make $18 mil a year? C’mon son!!!

  • gmarie

My goodness he should have just let her do the show, it’s not as if he has to be on camera himself. I can understand not wanting the child to have camera time but really what does she have to say about you that is SO bad? That you would stop her from getting a check, and possibly lowering your payments without having to scam and scheme with your residency.. We’ve heard it all from these women when it comes to the topic of there athlete ex’s, nothing even moves the audience anymore. it’s all about the women and their personal inner circle drama. to be honest the antics he’s pulling now gives him worse press than he could ever have received from Basketball Wives..

  • gracie

Its amazing how people prefer paying lawyers to helping their own children out. On the hand we never know what this ex did to him, maybe he just wants to punish her. Lesson learnt, be careful who you choose to have children with.

    • wveronica7

Maybe his wife rather pay lawyers than increase the support for the child. I have a step parent and its amazing the lengths they would go to to not support a child or truly hate on the previous spouse. His wife seems like the dominant one in their relationship anyway.

  • CA Pullen

Of course it is obvious what he is trying to do avoiding trying to pay additional support. He is not fooling anybody. The girl he is married to, if this marriage don’t last, the will be paying out of his pocket with a GREAT BIG smile on his face.
