Two separate lawsuits alleging racial discrimination were filed in federal court in New York on Friday, against Bank of America and investment bank Cantor Fitzgerald.

Jack Mitchell, who is black and worked as a manager at Bank of America from February 2007 to July 2008, alleges the bank maintained an “apartheid” system of business allocation, believing white clients would not want to be served by African American employees.

Under this system, Mitchell alleges, employees such as himself were routinely assigned to branches in low-income black communities, negatively affecting his compensation. Mitchell claims he was fired in retaliation for complaining about “the bank’s racist practices.”

Bank of America spokesman Bill Halldin declined to comment on the suit but said that “diversity and inclusion are part of Bank of America’s culture and core values.”

Mitchell is seeking damages of not less than $10 million.

I wish people would just stop banking with Bank of America. This is the same bank that tried to charge people a $5.00 debit card fee, the same bank that foreclosed on homes that people were not behind on their mortgages or their home paid off in the state of Florida, the same bank that came up with a crazy pilot program that people can sell their home back to them and rent the home instead, took TARP money and sent it overseas to set up jobs and the CEO at the time claim he didn’t know that was going on when Maxine Walters in Congress questioned him. It seems like everytime I turn around they are in the news for doing something. I used to have a credit account with them I paid them off and I no longer do business with them.

I work in Banking (not BOA) and it’s a white boys club (no harm intended), always has been…

My sister worked at Bank Of America. She worked at a branch in a suburban area (we live in Montgomery County MD). Got great benefits (i.e. paid for her son’s child care), & is on her way to a promotion. I have never heard her complain about anybody their being racist

    • Live_in_LDN

The question in all these cases is – Is your sister the exception or the rule?

    • Kayo

Okay, so are you saying that your sister’s case makes all other stories false?

      • Trisha_B

No i’m not saying my sister story makes it false. I’m just pointing out that she had a different experience from these people & that the branch of BOA that my sister works at didn’t have the problems that the lawsuits point at. Maybe those branches need to be investigated, fire the managers that are treating their employee’s like such.

    • Reen

is your sister black? lol or maybe it’s because she may be an attractive female? who knows. *shrugs*

      • Rv

A Black man’s experience in America is a lot different from a Black woman’s experience. So, I agree with your questions.

      • Trisha_B

Lol Yea, my sister is black. She’s chocolate girl lol. & yes, she’s attractive. So maybe that’s it lmao. Idk, i was just pointing out that my sister had a totally different experience from those men that are suing
