RIP: 4-Year-Old Shot and Killed During A Basketball Game In Honor Of A Past Victim of Senseless Violence

The First Annual Ghetto Angels Basketball Tournament was supposed to be an opportunity to celebrate the life of a young woman who was stabbed to death last year in the same area. But what started off as a regular game watched by a large group of residents from the Forrest Houses in the Bronx turned into a shootout in no time flat. The end result was two men wounded, and little Lloyd Morgan taking a bullet to the head. The 4-year-old was amongst other small children playing around the court, according the New York Daily News, when a man shot at a player on the court and the man shot back. The flurry of bullets went flying, as did most of the people who were watching the game. When the child’s mother went searching for him, she found Morgan on the ground, shot.

The scene, as described by a witness who spoke to the Daily News, was a chaotic one:

“People are all out and before you know it — it was Pop! Pop! Pop! People started running everywhere. They were screaming, a frightened scream. People were running, crossing the streets — not caring if cars were driving. They were scared.”

Sadly enough, according to New York’s CBS affiliate, this isn’t the first child that the victim’s father has lost. Lloyd Morgan, Sr. lost a newborn daughter when the mother of that child killed it, and police found the child’s body in a closet owned by her grandmother.

A rally is said to be taking place today on behalf of the young boy and to ask for a stop to the violence. And some are saying that because this shooting took place during a time where the NYPD was trying to slow up on its use of the controversial “Stop and frisk” method of patting down people “at random” (aka, only going after young men of color) on the streets, it’s all the more reason why the tactic is necessary. Not sure if I can say that I agree or not, especially when I think it’s dead wrong for it to be used on black and brown men solely, but I do know that it’s a damn shame that something like this had to happen at what was supposed to bring attention to senseless violence. Unfortunately, it brought more senseless violence and cost a 4-year-old his life. At just four, he had yet to do and see very much according to his mother, Shianne Norman: “So many gunshots and while this was going on, I was just looking for my baby. My son was 4 years old. He just turned 4 this May that just passed. He was going to school in September. He hasn’t gotten to live his life yet. He hasn’t gotten to do anything.”

Please keep this grieving family in your prayers.

Stuck on Stupid how much longer are people within the black community going to stay deliberately dumb there is absolutely no excuse for this kind of behavior
not even the animalistic excuse works for me here ,these are humans at the lowest point and a disgrace to humanity and a past in which people have tried to say we can do no better than this and others fighting to prove we are better way better
sadly situations like these make it an issue that still remains to be proven after all this time and heartache ,the majority has yet to get out of the we blame whites and us poor black folk funk
get a life worth living and move on

Sometimes I don’t want to have children because I don’t want to raise them in a world like this. When are black people going to learn? I know that violence happens in other communities, but I am addressing BLACK people. Why does it take the death of an innocent boy to realize that we need to stop killing each other? We are raising COWARDS. Men who are too weak to fight with their hands or their words. What’s worse is the people who come to the defense of these thugs. Oh, he had a hard life. Oh, his daddy left when he was a child. SO WHAT. There is always someone doing better with you with less than what you have. I have no sympathy for killers and I hope they are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Sad. Where is the value for life?

  • TooReal

They’re just a bunch of punk-ass cowards, scared to fight with their hands, need a gun and try to catch the other punk-ass m.f either off-guard or in the back with no regard to who’s around and then they brain-wash the commmunity of witnesses into not reporting them to the cops with that “Don’t Snitch”stupdity which allows them to continue wreaking mayhem at the expense of the “INNOCENTS” because these cowards are terrified to go to jail.I pray the witnesses come forward and there is justice for little Lloyd.Damn Shame,a baby playing! Rest in Peace Angel!!

There has to be a greater concern for the welfare of children. That has to happen in childhood, because if it did, there’s a chance that fewer people would grow up to be like these fools who were shooting as a public gathering. Once people become grown and are able to make their own decisions, no one gives a damn what happened to them to make them so mean and reckless as adults. I know I don’t. Unless their mothers stayed liquored up while pregnant or repeatedly dropped them on their heads, I can’t think of too many valid excuses for adults to be so stupid. What useless pieces of humanity, just suckin’ up air from everybody else. I can’t feel any pity for people who are so trifling, regardless of what got them there, that they do nothing but going around spoiling life for everyone else.

All these senseless shootings and killings is the main reason y I don’t go to the club or any function where there will b a crowd especially a crowd of thugs; I’ll stick to my quiet dinners and walk in the park. To loose a child is a pain idk but my heart breaks for his parents to know that someone killed your child is a tough pill to swallow RIP

I am so done with the black community! As long as one person is standing around (which there is) making excuses for this type of behavior like, we need more police patrols, we need more money for community centers, we need more welfare checks, etc. Then this type of crap will continue to go on. Until I see black people snitching on these thugs to authorities or al sharpton and jess jackson marching for this instead of faux racism, then this crap will continue to happen. Until these mothers stop getting on tv talking about their grown son who is 18 “sitting in the living room with a gun in his lap eating fruit snacks while he is covered in blood like a 2yr covered in finger paint” and she is on tv talking about “my baby, he’s a good boy” then this crap will continue to happen. But no one wants to speak the truth or stand up against ignorance in the black community. -Done- And no, your bad @ss child that is out reeking havoc on the neighborhood is not a “good boy or good girl” they are Community Terrorist!

      So true, dcarter910!!
Mothers, y’all need to stop making excuses for your wayward sons. They are a scourge on our communities. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched a news report about a gang member or drug dealer getting shot and killed and the family members (especially the mothers) swearing ‘fore God that their child was nearly a saint, and they know damn well that ain’t true!!!
You are not doing your kids any favors. Know who your children’s friends are. Know where they are at all times, who they are with and what they’re doing. When in doubt, show up! Show up unexpectedly! They may be embarrassed, but you let them know you’re saving their lives and keeping them out of a system that once they get sucked into they can not escape from.
Be a parent and stop giving up on your kids! And for God’s sake, be an example. Your kids aren’t going to be good people if you’re a hot mess yourself!

You can’t even go to an outside basketball game WITHOUT worrying about some fools coming and ruining it. These dudes knew that people would be there they didn’t like and so and so forth, but there was still no need to bring the violence where you knew other people would be to enjoy the game. I hope they caught the a$$holes and put them both down for life no matter whose gun the bullet came from…
    R.I.P. Lil Angel!!!!

    • dcarter910

they are not “dudes” or human, they are animals and I do not shed a tear when they are shot by cops (armed or unarmed).

      • SISTAHNATURAL

I agree with you 1000% they are not dudes or human…only ANIMALS act in such fashion…..

  • koffybrown

OH! Lord help us please. This just sad and disturbing. It breaks my heart everytime I read about a child has lost his/her life due to the senseless violence.
