Sticker Shock! Five Tips to Help You Pay for College

Start Saving Early. The fact is you need money in your bank account to pay the bill. Whether you’re enrolling yourself or have a child that you’re going to be putting through school, you ought to start saving as soon as you know a college expense is on the horizon. You can start saving even before your child’s in kindergarten.

The basics work– put a few dollars to the side with each check. Skip a couple of lattes per week and put the savings in a coffee can. But to really put away some serious cash, consider a savings program like a 529 Plan, which offers tax breaks for money saved and spent on tuition.

    The biggest one is joining the military for 2-4 years and then take advantage of the GI Bill. It pays for school and housing.
