Gabrielle Union Says Her Career Took a Hit From Homewrecker ‘Madness’

I’m sure Gabrielle Union is telling the truth and is not at all amused by the blows dealt to her career as a result of her relationship with Dwyane Wade. But it’s almost comical that Hollywood and the entertainment/acting arena of all industries would try to limit someone’s exposure because of their suspect relationship, but that’s what Gabrielle Union says happened to her.

This weekend, the actress spoke with IPower 92′s T.T Torrez during the Radio One Music Fest in Miami, and said this about how her career has been affected by her love life:

“It’s hard because, aside from loving him, I want to protect myself. I’ve built my life. I built my own brand. I built my career and my career took a hit from that madness because some people refuse to see the truth, even when it’s presented to them time and time again. I love him but at some point it’s about self preservation and I needed to protect myself and everything I built.”

I’m thinking endorsements may be what came up short for Gaby, as opposed to acting roles. I can’t recall seeing her in a Neutrogena spot in more than a little bit, although that’s quite interesting when there are others in relationships that are just as Kontroversial (ahem) , if not more, that can’t seem to sell us enough stuff. It may be the sexual contact in front of the kids allegation though that caused Gabrielle Union to fall out of some people’s good graces.

Double standard aside, Gabrielle said when the tables turned she had to figure out a way to make things work:

“I pay for my family. I pay for my mommy and my daddy and my sisters and her family. ‘D’ doesn’t write those checks, I do, so when something is starting to affect the way I make a living, ‘No No No baby’, let me figure out a way for me to protect our home that me and Dwyane have with the kids, you have to put them first. You have to put their love of their mom, their love of peace of mind and love of consistency first, and then I have to make sure I can still feed my own family. Luckily, by taking the high road and not engaging in the back and forth craziness, I was able to do both. Luckily, by doing the right thing and putting the children first, it worked out that I was able to save myself.”

Good for her for making it happen. Unfortunately the couple isn’t quite out of the woods yet with a pending custody hearing stemming from Shiovaughn’s Father’s Day antics. Perhaps D. Wade’s ex-wife should have though about taking the high road because she may soon be without any rights to her children at all. A judge is supposed to make a ruling in the case today, we’ll have to see how the decision shakes out for everybody involved.

    OMG! I have been WAITING ON THIS TOPIC! A HOME WRECKER is a HOME WRECKER- PERIOD! Whether it is Gabby, Alicia Keys, Fantasia, WHOEVER! If you enter a relationship with a man who is LEGALLY MARRIED, not DIVORCED or LEGALLY SEPARATED it’s called HOME WRECKER! I don’t care if the man tells you, she (the wife) is not doing this, or that, or they haven’t slept together blah blah blah. RESPECT IS LOST! Being famous does not exonerate you! I used to be HUGE fans of all the previous mentioned women, Alicia Keys, I am REALLY disappointed in her, she was the LOUDEST on “women must stick together, Women empowerment”. It’s sad that it is swept under the rug for allot of people, These “couples” are on the covers of magazines, Fantasia was even bold enough to have that MARRIED MAN’s LAST name tattooed on her chest! THE NAME HIS WIFE LEGALLY TOOK, the name HIS CHILDREN DESERVE! OH THE HUMANITY! I’m sorry, their career deserves to suffer. Gabby is old enough to have known the consequences of her actions, but wait- she didn’t care- just HAD to have that woman’s husband! Your present choices determine your future happiness.

    Where does it states that you have to be with ur,high school sweetheart forever. Things change, people change. I dnt know why some people hold hood like a badge of honor. Gabby is doing just fine in my book cause im sure like all the judgemental people on blogs she doing helluva better than us.

    Part of the reason people didn’t care as much with Angelina Jolie is because respect for her was so low to begin with, lol! Angelina was always considered a bad girl, plus there was her marriage at a young age to wrinkly old Billy Bob Thornton, and suggestions of an inappropriate relationship with her brother. If anything, Brad Pitt helped clean up her image. But Gabby is something of a black princess who many looked up to. She had the courage the come out as a sexual assault survivor. She never took her clothes off or played trashy roles. She stayed working as a black actress. So yes the whole Dwayne Wade fiasco hurt Gabby’s image. But I do hope she will bounce back.

    It is what it is. There are always consequences when you hurt other people to get what you want. Truth Gabby ruthlessly wrecked a home and helped to possibly ruin a life and now want people to sympathize with her. Sounds like she thought her fame would allow her to do what she wanted with no effects. Well in order to be with Wayne, losing fans, part of your career, your respect, etc, is the price she had to pay. Guess it cost her more than she thought it would.

      plus i dont like how she dress around his kids, two piece bikinis and such. you dont see savannah dressing half naked in front of the kids..gabby need to learn some respect, she want dwade but not his kids, dwade wake up dude, what type of woman walk around your kids with a bikini on???     I personally don’t support any projects that she, Alicia Keys, or Fantasia produce. I don’t have to start a movement against them but I choose not to give them my money or time.

    No one should be feeling sorry for Gabby. She made the decision to get involved with a married man. I’m not judging her, that’s just the fact of the matter. She knew he was married and was willing to sleep with him and continues to do so. Therefore she signed up for all that comes with her decision. When you put on big girl panties you suffer big girl consequences. As she stated, she loves him. So let the chips fall where they may, in the name of love!

    She never had no “A” list career. She did a few movies, here and there, but she had no HOT career! Maybe she should go watch one of her movies.
