Ray Allen Taking his Talents To South Beach

Well, it’s the end of the Big Three in Boston.  Ray Allen’s agent has confirmed what people like Lebron James and other Heat personnel have been tweeting since Friday: Ray will join the Miami Heat next season.  According to sources, Allen may not have felt he was getting treated with the same level of respect he’d been getting in the past from the Celtics. HE apparently also has a very strained relationship with Celtics’ guard Rajon Rondo so he chose to make his choice and leave Boston as a free agent and go to Miami…for less money.  I’m sure he’s hoping for a championship and if they get one, all the boos and ill comments he will no doubt receive from Boston fans will have been well worth it.

Morgan Freeman said WHAT??

Let’s remember everyone has the right to their opinion, okay? With that said, Morgan Freeman spoke to NPR recently and one of the things he felt compelled to discuss was politics, specifically President Obama.  Freeman does not believe that Barack Obama should be called the country’s first black president. He says:

“First thing that always pops into my head regarding our president is that all of the people who are setting up this barrier for him … they just conveniently forget that Barack had a mama, and she was white — very white American, Kansas, middle of America,” Freeman said. “There was no argument about who he is or what he is. America’s first black president hasn’t arisen yet. He’s not America’s first black president — he’s America’s first mixed-race president.”

I know, I know.  But he was also quick to say that the Republicans are making it very hard for him to do his job because they want to see him only serve one term and do anything to make it look like he’s ineffective. I don’t know, Mr. Freeman, could some be acting like that because they see him as…our first black president?

A ‘Polite’ Reception for D’Angelo at EMF

It was the moment the entire crowd of mostly women had been waiting for.  Yesterday was day two of the Essence Music Festival and D’Angelo was finally set to appear.  According to The New York Times, D’Angelo was a bit confusing for the crowd.  He played music as though he were playing just for the love of music and not necessarily for the fans.  Much like the response he received from the BET Awards performance, people weren’t feeling “jam session” D’Angelo; no, they wanted D’Angelo from theBrown Sugar album and that doesn’t seem to be where he is anymore.  The crowd screamed when he did “Untitled” but were very disappointed that he didn’t perform “Brown Sugar.”  When it was all said and done, the performance was just “okay” for the crowd and they were on to the next artist.  I’ve got to say: as fans, you can’t have it both ways. People have been screaming for D to come back and now that he has – and sounds good – it doesn’t seem to be good enough.  Let that man sing!

Lil Scrappy: When ‘Keeping It Real” Goes Wrong

Someone take the mic from Lil Scrappy, please.  The “Love & Hip-Hop: ATL” star was on “TMZ Live” earlier this week to likely to promote the show; but the conversation apparently turned to Frank Ocean and his “coming out story.”  Scrappy showed his support by saying, “I’m glad that he came out … so all the real women that love to mess with real men, straight men, we can keep the AIDS situation down, you feel me?”  He continued on with “Homosexuality is a doorway to AIDS, scientifically.”  There’s so much wrong with the statement – even if what he said wasn’t how he meant to say it – that it is hard to know where to start. First, are you not a real man if you aren’t a straight man?  Second, are straight men going to really keep the AIDS epidemic down?  I could go on and on but…I won’t.

Serena Williams Takes Another One

That’s right, Serena Williams won the 2012 Wimbledon Saturday by beating Agnieszka Radwanska 2 sets to 1 in what was a very hard fought match. Serena coasted through the first set but came apart to lose the second and pulled it together to when the final third set.  This makes Serena’s fifth Wimbledon title and gives her lots of confidence going into the U.S. Open.  Is there anyone still questioning whether or not she is one of – if not, the – greatest female tennis players EVER? Let’s let go because the answer is YES SHE IS.

Gabrielle Union Makes Dwyane Wade’s Eyes ‘Sparkle’

When Oprah sat down with the Miami Heat’s version of the Big Three after their championship win, she made sure to ask about the loves in their lives.  When speaking to Dwyane Wade about his relationship with Gabrielle Union, he said she makes his eyes sparkle, especially when he sees her with his children:

“The biggest time she makes my eyes sparkle is when Zaire comes home and homework is a little hard that day, stressing, and she go to the table with him, and she sits down until he gets it, he understands it,” Wade said. “And at that time my heart is smiling a little bigger that day because I know her love is deeper than just me.”

He says they grow closer everyday as a family unit and are always improving which he thinks are great steps.  No, he didn’t mention a ring in the clip and no, I don’t know if he includes the boys’ mother Siovaughn as part of the family unit. I’m just here to tell you what he said.

Introducing: Jennah Bell

Get into her. I don’t know that I’ve let you down yet with my musical selections and I don’t intend to start by recommending Jennah Bell.  If you watched the BET Awards last weekend, you’ll remember that she was one of the “Music Matters” artists and has a soulful/funky/folk style of music.  She released The Early Bird EP a few months ago and she’s received a warm reception thus far.  I heard her name just a couple of months ago and was very pleased by not only her voice but her lyrics as well (yes, she writes).  So far, most of her songs are about love – I urge you to check out “Follow The White Rabbit.”  Interesting tidbit about Jennah? Her dad is Ronald Bell of Kool & the Gang!  I’m telling you to make sure you give the music a chance! Check out her website and hear new music!
