The all-black “Steel Magnolias” movie remake is coming right along. The film idea was first announced in October and already there’s a trailer for the made-for-TV movie, which means the feature-length flick shouldn’t be too far behind.

The film, which is set in Louisiana, will air on Lifetime and stars Executive Producer Queen Latifah as M’Lynn, Alfre Woodard as Ouiser, Phylicia Rashad as Clairee, Jill Scott as Truvy, Adepero Oduye as Annelle, and Condola Rashad as Shelby. As for male co-stars, Lance Gross, Tory Kittles and Michael Beasley all have parts in the remake as well.

I don’t remember much from the original but according to other sites some of the scenes and lines in the trailer should be recognizable from the 1989 film. Either way, this looks like a good one to watch from my view. Check out the trailer and tell us what you think.

Will you watch?

I love how Black ppl are quick to see that we are “piggybacking off white folks” but hate to realize that this is art. There should be no color lines and if they want to do this, then it should be appreciated. The main idea of this is just as it always have been…women unity. Pay attention to the actual point, not the color of the actresses on the film

UUMMMM Not really feeling this …too much ..i mean too exact to to the orginal..which by the way I loved!!!! looking @ this small clip I will be hanging on everyword to hear the same script…example Cape Fear …similar story line but totally different script…Our culture is different ….make it different..whats wrong with that..thats who we are…and by the way I did not see one NATURAL cast member or at least wearing her hair natural ..I think they missed the boat on this one…but to be fair I will have to view the picture..The casting great!!!! Any Black Actress working is a thumbs up in my book .

Wow. That isn’t a Black adaptation. Those scenes are word for word of the original. This is horrible and could have been done so much better than this.

I don’t get why there needs to be a black remake. Are we not talented enough to come up with an equally brilliant screenplay from the plethora of work from black novelists?. The original was a masterpiece. I love Kenny Leon and the cast, so I’ll still watch it. Agree with Kelly the 1st poster.

This movie feels completely unnecessary… I’m sure their hearts were in the right place, but this seems forced. There has got to be original screenplays out there that could pluck the same heart strings….

Think I’m going to go watch the original now…..

steel magnolias is one of my all time favorite movies ever. i’ve easily watched it over a hundred times. it is a timeless classic. having said that, i would watch a remake of this movie regardless of the cast just to compare it to the original. not sure about queen latifah in sally field’s role, i could picture alfre as the mom and maybe whoopi goldberg or loretta devine as weezer.

I’ll watch it. Hollywood remakes movies all the time. I see nothing wrong or odd about them remaking this movie too.

The original Steel Magnolias was a phenomenal movie And the remake should be phenomenal also. Phylicia Rashad, Alfre Woodard, Jill Scott, Queen Latifah. This too is an award winning cast. I look forward to seeing it.
