When starting a brand new relationship, it’s understandable to be cautious when divulging personal information. After all, you don’t want to tell someone you just met how many sexual partners you’ve had on your first date, and anyone who wants to know EVERYTHING about you before dessert is a bit creepy. It can be overwhelming, and if you have issues with “your business,” you may not want to share EVERYTHING.

But as a relationship progresses, getting close to your partner should foster a deeper level of intimacy where sharing information becomes easier. However, for some, being completely open and honest about all aspects of their lives is a scary thought – or simply unheard of – because they feel that their business is simply that…their business. We can all expect that there will be some level of secrecy in any relationship, but some go from being mysterious to downright manipulative – which is where the relationship can run into trouble. While you may be afraid that “oversharing” will either scare your partner away or cripple the relationship, the key to any union is communication and honesty; whether you have just started dating, or are in a full-blown, long-term relationship. While your man may not need to know that you secretly watch trashy reality shows, there are major things you should never keep from a significant other – here are 5.

This sounds like a good formula for another “reality” show! Get on it VH1.

    • bluekissess

Please No. I can’t take another show

  • lalatarea

i agree with everything except for the abortion part, that is a private decision between a woman and her doctor which doesn’t effect the man, their money or anything else like that.

    • Nope

And we assume that it’s happened at least once anyway, especially if it was a longterm relationship.

Thank you for the list! My loser boyfriend (we live together) made me think that I was the crazy one, and that I was overreacting! He constantly contacts women online through facebook (without telling me), makes inappropriate comments to them, has I don’t know how many emailadresses. When he is on facebook and I approach, he clicks away.. ! But nooo. I’m the crazy one.. !!!
    LOSER!

    • SMH

If he has a history of doing this sort of stuff during your relationship and you’re still with him, you ARE the crazy one.

      • Lin

Haha, this recently happened, we are no longer speaking to each other!

I was going to read-BUT- then I thought about why MN always have list on how to act, what to say or what to do. Is there a list about being ourselves? And that it’s okay to be ourselves. It’s always a list about a man.

What makes MN such an expert? I’m sure half of your staff is single, in a relationship but isn’t married, married but isn’t happy. The point is NOBODY IS PERFECT!!

    • MedPassion

This list or many others that have been posted from this site is casual advice or light reading. Something that may come to you as common sense may be just what another woman needed to hear/read. It’s one thing to dislike a post. It’s another to say that you’re “sure” about half the staff and their currency relationship status. There was no claim in the article that their advice or tips would produce a perfect person. Or that it came from people in perfect relationships. This is a website catering to the many facets of todays Black Woman. Whether is job interview advice, homemade skin care advice or relationship advice – The point is read at your leisure and apply at your own risk…. It really isn’t that serious ;)

I’m sure you feel great standing on your soapbox telling it like is. Glad you expressed your opinion BUT it wasn’t needed. I’m afraid that women rely on these list. Most seems like common sense mixed with life experience. IN MY OPINION this list and the many other lists aren’t informative. I haven’t lived on this earth long but I can decipher right and wrong.

But whatever. I’m not taking this crap serious. I’m good. You can step on your soapbox now

        • MedPassion

If you don’t want people to give opinions on your opinion , I advise you not to place your opinion over a button that says reply. Please and thank you. And I think I may just leave my soap box here in case someone else needs it.

          • bluekissess

I really don’t like to go off topic especially over nonsense. The soapbox reference wasn’t the only thing I expressed. Agree to disagree have a blessed day

            • MedPassion

You have a blessed day as well!! :)

        • fanniedavis

You don’t have to read the lists or anything else on this Web site if its just that bad. And I don’t have a soap box I just think your ignorant

          • bluekissess

The beauty of OPINIONS no right or wrong answer. Agree to disagree have a nice day.

      • fanniedavis

        Thank you!!

    • Courtney

This list isn’t about a man, it’s about not keeping important things from your man. How can you possibly comment on an article you did NOT read? That’s silly. If “being yourself” involves hiding STD’s, money problems and pregnancies, then this is an article SOMEONE needs to read in order to get a clue – because I’m sure there are people out there doing this foolishness. Of course no one is perfect, but that doesn’t mean we can’t all benefit from some helpful advice from time to time. And if no one is perfect, then why are you even reading articles on sites like these if you feel you can’t benefit because no one is perfect or “an expert.” You’re no expert, but you clearly think YOUR OPINION matters…or else you wouldn’t have taken the time to write it. None of the authors of this site claim to be experts at anything, but if their opinions on certain subjects help someone else, then why do you care? It’s not that serious.

      • bluekissess

Yawn.I’m sticking to MY OPINION. HAVE A SPLENDID DAY
