Eight-time Grammy-winning singer Lauryn Hill pleaded guilty Friday to not paying federal taxes on more than $1.5 million earned over three years.

Appearing in U.S. District Court in Newark, Hill admitted failing to file tax returns from 2005 to 2007. She faces a maximum one-year sentence on each of the three counts. She was charged three weeks ago.

Dressed in a dark jacket, white button-up shirt and a long reddish-orange skirt, Hill declined to comment after Friday’s hearing. During the hearing, attorney Nathan Hochman indicated that Hill planned to pay back the taxes she owes.

U.S. Magistrate Michael Shipp initially scheduled sentencing for early October but agreed to delay it until late November to give Hill time to make repayment.

Seriously?!! Love Lauryn but I’m tired of hearing about this story from one too many celebrities. PAY YOUR TAXES!! Surely life is never THAT hectic that you can’t do it yourself or get an accountant to do it for you. You’ve got 4 months to complete it and if that isn’t enough time, can ask for an extension. Surely you have one day to sit down and just do the darn thing. And now a days you can even file them online. No excuses. Pay your taxes or pay the government with your time. It really is as simple as that.

Repay your taxes, girl! I’d hate to seeing you sitting up in jail next to Wesley Snipes. Who else they get!

OK. How many people are going to go to prison for this before others start making sure they’re taking care of the taxes? Can’t get around it…may as well get it done.

I hate to hear this about Lauryn, I’m always rooting for her!

Why put non-violent or non-threats to society in jail and make them criminals? Would make more since to have her put on concerts and re-pay whatever she owes from that revenue.

I will prefer that too. But, unfortunately her concerts are not how it used to be. I attended one of her appearances, and her behavior was very odd. She was saying some things, but was hard understanding her until she finally walked off stage. It was strange. I don’t want her to go to jail but she should also invest in some professional help, to be in a more healthy mindframe.
