Pure Comedy: Quincy Jones Says Diddy ‘Couldn’t Recognize a B Flat If It Hit Him’

Quincy Jones was speaking at Spotify launch event on Tuesday when he slammed Diddy’s musical abilities.  Jones was quoted saying Diddy “couldn’t recognize a b flat if it hit him,” and went on to note the the hip-hop moguls marketing skills as his talents.  The Huffington Post reports:

“Quincy Jones is certainly one of the most influential producers of all time, having lent his midas touch to everyone from Ray Charles to Michael Jackson. As such, he’s an authority on music and is entitled to give his opinion on the careers of others in the industry. And on Tuesday, he had Diddy on his mind.”

    Quincy played the trumpet, composes, produces, and has a knack for instruments and hit records. Diddy can sell a trend. Trends die though… “Q” (If I may) hath spoken.

    I don’t think he was dissing Diddy in a real negative way. He likes Diddy. If you remember he was in one of Diddy’s videos, and he had Diddy on the cover of Vibe plenty of times when he was hands on with that magazine.

    Q was just speaking the truth, here. Diddy doesn’t know any intruments and probably can’t read music. He just knows how to play with a beat maker and he’s good at marketing.

    Thank you SO MUCH!! I’m so sick of these rappers (like Diddy and Jay) choosing singers and crap when they don’t know the FIRST thing about music!! It really pisses me off!! It proves that this industry really is NOT about talent but pure marketing!!

      And I wouldn’t even classify Diddy as a wrapper, he hung on to Biggy and Mase but Diddy himself has no rapping skills.

    Yes he is entitled to give his opinion. When you have produced the magnitude of great artists and music he has and lasted as long as he has, you know the difference between real talent and non talent.

      Plus Quincy “is” a muscian himself, he knows about flats, sharps, naturals, diminished chords and so forth. Diddy knows about clubbing and alcohol.

    You know what, I have to agree with Quincy. Diddy couldn’t hold a candle to the Q! All that Making The Band FAILs, Diddy need to go sit his butt down!
