Literally, Trapped in the Closet: Woman Arrested After Child Found Malnourished, Covered in Feces

Some people should not be allowed to have kids.

29-year-old Jacole Prince was arrested and charged with assault in the first degree, child abuse, and endangering the welfare of a child in the first degree after law enforcement found her ten-year-old severely malnourished, covered in her own urine and feces and locked in a closet.

ABC News reports:

The girl weighed just 32 pounds, and hospital records indicated that she has only gained 6 pounds since she was 4 or 5 years old, according to a police probable cause statement. The girl also suffers from “multiple healing skin injuries and failure to thrive,” the statement said.

“She weighed a little over a third of what a 10-year-old should weigh,” Kansas City Police Capt. Steve Young said. “We don’t know how long or how frequently she’s been in there [the closet], but it’s clear she’d spent a significant amount of time in there.”

Kansas City police met Missouri Children’s Division workers outside the apartment building Friday morning after the division received a hotline call about a girl who was locked up and unable to eat or use the restroom.

When a division worker told two women outside the apartment that three children lived in the apartment, the neighbors said they had never seen the third child even though they’d lived there for “several years.”

“We never knew of her the whole three years we’ve been down here,” Kimberly Kelley, another neighbor, told ABC’s affiliate in Kansas City, KMBC-TV. “She told us she only had two kids.”

The girl was found standing in the closet, according to the statement. She told officers “the closet was her room,” and she couldn’t go to breakfast with her mother and sisters because she “messes herself.” She also sleeps there, she said.

At the hospital, the child told detectives she had not been let out of the closet for two days, and she does not eat every day. She said her mother gets mad and “punches her on the back” because she “keeps peeing on herself.”

She is not allowed to play outside like her sisters, and instead has to play behind the couch, the girl said.

Jacole and her boyfriend were both arrested at his house. Jacole says she hid her daughter because she would get in trouble if someone saw how malnourished and dirty her daughter is. As for the other kids? CBS News says that neighbors told the Associated press, the woman’s other daughters were clean, happy and, if anything, “spoiled.”

The boyfriend is the father of Jacole’s other two kids, but not the ten-year-old. He says he had no idea she was locked in the closet.

There are a lot of questions in this story that will probably be answered when this case goes to trial. Such as, where is the father in this story? And if the boyfriend didn’t know the little girl was locked in a closet, where did he think she was? Were there no grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins or friends who inquired about the child?

Thankfully, the police were tipped off after someone called the child abuse hotline. That phone call likely saved this little girl’s life.

I don’t understand these mothers who treat their children this way. If someone has a child they don’t want, can’t they put them up for adoption or even drop the child off at the foster care office without legal repercussions? There has to be a solution beyond nearly starving a child to death and forcing her to live in her own bodily waste. If this little girl’s dad is still alive, maybe they’ll find him and arrest him too.

What do you think about this story?

She looks scattered and vacant. Who ever took her picture probably said, “Look at the camera”. Her expression looks like she’s thinking, ‘Where’s that voice coming from?’.

The answer to “WHY” is not hard to understand. Clearly she’s one of those piece of s##t mothers that makes a difference in her children. From the good condition of her other two kids, we see that she is capable of mothering. She CHOSE to not mother this little girl for one of 3 possible reasons. Either she hates the little girls father and is taking it out on her OR she feels this little girl is less attractive than the other two and therefore in her deranged mind, deserving of less respect, OR the boyfriend insisted she be treated poorly because she wasn’t his and this weak woman went along just to keep his sorry a## around. Whatever her excuse she deserves a long prison term, as does the boyfriend, he’s lying… he knew and at the very least stood by doing nothing. That’s jail worthy.

There’s a special place in hell for people like this. There are too many people to be questioned here… Did the child ever go to school, and if so, did no one miss her when she just didn’t show up? The real dad obviously ain’t ISH, no sense looking for him now since he’s gotten away with being ghost this long. Reminds me of a situation here in DC where a mother killed her kids and had them in the house in their beds for 2 months. God help us.. Send these aliens back where they came from. They are human perpetrators!

This story reminds me of the book” a child called it” ,sadly this is real life. For sure the mother has to go to jail… And i’m pretty sure the boyfriend was aware but didn’t care. What’s wrong with being a good stepdad treating that child like the others two? :( :-(

a child called it was a true story, too. this is basically the same situation except with a young black girl instead of a young white boy.
the worst criminals aren’t only the ones who commit the crimes, but the ones who stand around and turn a blind eye to the atrocities they witness. there is no excuse for the boyfriend not saying or doing anything because in no way, shape, or form is it acceptable for a child to be treated that way, whether or not it’s his.

yes i know it was a true story too. I do agree with what you’re saying. No excuses at all. i wasnt trying to give him any credit just trying to understand (like it is possible) what goes wrong with that sort of persons.

I read all those books. his family had the nerve to dismiss his claims and act like none of it ever happened.

I absolutely hate women who neglect a child from a previous relationship in favour of children from their current relationship, They are scum utter bile filled trash and they should have seering blistering pain inflicted upon them for being so cruel and heartless. They don’t deserve to have children they don’t deserve human companionship at all.

This story brought tears to my eyes..poor baby, I hope she recovers and is taken in by someone who is capable of healing the emotional scars she is sure to have or develop. As mentioned in the article, no grandparents, or her biological father in the picture…and what about school or truancy laws, what was going on?

If she was let out two days ago where did he think she went after the two days? He’s a liar and she’s a psychopath poor girl god please find her some good foster parents

Why do the father has to be arrested? :/

    • sammi_lu

It is actually the father of the sicko’s other two children..her boyfriend but not the 10yr old’s biological. I’m sure because they felt he was aware of the state the child was in as well..though at the end of the article he claimed he didn’t.

This mother ain’t ish! She deserve to be locked in the closet with no food and eat her own feces. I hope that poor child is okay and is placed in a better home.

She definitely deserves to suffer like she made this child suffer. Unfortunately, this child is 10 years old and the amount of neglect and abuse she endured will impact her psyche and ability to have healthy relationships with others for a long time.
