That’s How You Feel? Kelis Responds to Nas Using Her Wedding Dress on Album Cover

Nas and Kelis have been divorced for two years now, but you’d think things were just finalized yesterday the way their wedding, marriage, and dissolution are such a hot topic. With Nas back in the spotlight, naturally everyone has been asking about how things went down with his ex-wife, but when he released the “Life is Good” album cover holding the infamous green dress Kelis wore during the couple’s 2005 nuptials, it sparked all sorts of discussion about just what message he was really trying to send to his old, old lady.

During Nas’ VH1 “Behind the Music” special, he explained that the wedding dress was the only thing Kelis left behind when she moved out, and during an interview with MTV, he said during the filming of that segment he realized the dress needed to be a part of his album art.

“It clicked right there. You’re saying it even in your interview, it’s like a given that this should allude to this being on the cover, that statement,” he said. “Some things you can’t plan, they happen.”

That’s easy for him to say, but does Kelis feel the same? Surprisingly, she sort of does. In an interview with NME.com, she spoke on the cover art and said:

“My feelings about it are not really relevant, but you know at the end of the day Nas is an artist. And for whatever it’s worth he’s one of the greatest, and especially for what it is he does.

“So for me, I feel like especially for someone in hip-hop to kind of be genuine and honest, whatever the honesty is about, I think it’s awesome. So my feelings about it aren’t really necessarily valid, it’s just the fact that as an artist I can respect that he wears his feelings on his sleeve.”

It kind of sounds like she might be feeling some sort of way about the cover, but she’s putting artistry over feelings which is pretty cool. These two are sounding more amicable than ever these days. Around the same time that she was bigging him up, he told Tim Westwood in a radio interview:

“Shout out to Kelis. She’s an amazing woman and that’s the mother of my child and she’s great and everything is good.”

If these two have so much love for each other, it seems they ought to have that joint custody situation worked out soon. What do you think about Kelis’ response?

first off MN i couldn’t hear the dang interview because these crazy ads ! whew ok …she sounds over it and i’m glad i hope she is ok . not feeling the earring in the nose thing but whatever .

  • Ona2684

She sounded very diplomatic. I’m sure the cover stired up some emotion for her but she’s making it clear that his art/craft is what matters in this situation, not how she feels about it. I love Kelis and Nas and I hate that they split but I think they are both adults and it shows.

  • msgeemee

If that dress meant anything to Kelis, she would have never left it behind. I think they have both moved on and trying to take the high road.

    • sammi_lu

I would have left that ugly a** dress behind too!

  • kkme

she sounds worn out and tired

  • bluekissess

I wish people would take her words for what they are. Once again people are over analyzing. If she’s not mad then she’s not mad. If she admitted she was upset I’m sure people would over analyze as to why she shouldnt be mad

  • Merriegirl

That’s her wedding dress, why would she feel that her feelings are invalid?

  • gmarie

I don’t sense her feeling any kind of way honestly but content. She’s in a different place. What did people expect her to say? I’m happy they are now getting along…I really liked them together. idk if it can ever work again but at the end of the day peace with self and a situation is the better than any rekindled relationship.

Why would wither of them put each other down in public? Anyway, the cover draws attention, which keeps the checks coming in. My ex is an electrician who works for a wallboard company, and when I see the logo for his company on a new building while riding around town, I am instantly happy because it KEEPS THE ALIMONY CHECKS COMING! IJS

    • MLS2698

      Either.

    • bluekissess

I think she put him down enough with the twitter rants

  • Shonda Johnson

This situation is irrelevant to Kelis and thank god Nas divorced her because she wasn’t good enough for him anyway…..Nas needed someone on his level and Kelis wasn’t it…

    • JusSayin

Oh because Nasir and yourself had this conversation over the course of their (Kelis and himself) relationship? Just because someone is a great artist does not mean they are a great person in a marriage. Not to say he isn’t… Just please remember R.Kelly was kanoodling with teenage girls that were probably created on one of his 12 play tracks.

That sounds like something I would have said. She’s obviously over it already.
