Men Interested in Being AKAs File Discrimination Lawsuit

Have you ever heard of MIAKA?  That acronym stands for Men Interested in AKA.  They are homosexual men who want the right to pledge and join the ranks of the sisters of Alpha Kappa Alpha.  But apparently, there’s a problem with that idea…they’re men.

No matter how sensitive to women’s issues or in touch with their feminine side, MIAKA does not fit the key qualification that it takes to be a part of the non-profit, community centered, women’s service organization.

    It’s stupid of them to claim discrimination, their rejection has nothing to with them being shades of black (brown) or gay, it has to do with them being men. This is a female sorority and I think they should respect that. I tell ya, people are reaching too high these days.

    I am NOT a member of a BGLO , but I am very close to those who have pledged and this is extremely disrespectful to them and to their respective organizations. These homosexual men have the right to start their own organizations/ clubs. Why do they not see how rude and ridiculous they look? They are not women. No matter how much makeup, lip gloss or wigs they try on, they are MEN. It used to be funny, like they were paying homage, but now it has gotten out of line. I hope they are prepared to fight because they are going to lose and make themselves look even worse than they already look. It needs to stop. NOW.

    2. An association or a society of women.

    I am an active and financial member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated. I do not find it necessary to debate the sexual orientation of the gentleman. My organization was established for college educated women..period. Hence my insertion of the definition of the word sorority. I feel as though the argument stops there.

    This is so ridiculous!! Why not respect that AKA is a Service Organization for women. They have strict criteria, they get to choose like other Historical Organizations do who becomes a part. Can you bogart your way into the Masons?? I think not.

    Where’s the question mark in the title? The story you link to has a question mark? I believe this whole thing is a rumor that folks ran with. I have seen no statement from the MiAKAs regarding this so-called lawsuit. Every mention of this story uses the one kollegekid blog as a source. Once I see some additional statements then I’ll believe it. Until then, there’s nothing to see here

    This isn’t something that AKA alone can decide. It should be brought up with the entire panhellenic counsel. If AKA decides, they ultimately decide for all Greek orgs.

    no they shouldn’t be allowed to join….AKA is very hard to pledge as a female and that lends to their creditability…and if the sorority does le them in then every female that submitted to the sorority should be able to “perp” .. I would not have not respect for AKA if this is done…I will pledge Delta!
