Check It Out: Jennifer Hudson’s Launching a New Fashion Line for QVC

Is there anything Jennifer Hudson can’t do? The 30-year-old singer, Oscar winner, author, and Weight Watcher’s spokesperson has a number of successes under her belt and now she’s setting her sights on a new venture: fashion.

Woman’s Wear Daily reports the newly minted fashion designer will introduce the Jennifer Hudson Collection for QVC in September.

Recently, Jennifer famously lost 80 pounds on Weight Watchers and dropped from a size 16 to a size 6. She told WWD that her new line will feature clothes for those sizes and in between:

“I feel like I represent every woman. I’ve been on both sides of the fence. I’ve been a big girl and now whatever this is, the average size, whatever you want to call it. But I wanted the clothes to be where any girl could wear it — no matter what size you are — and you could feel comfortable in it.”

The line is being touted as “affordable”, but that’s a relative term considering a purchase will set you back $75 for a sheer maxiskirt, 74.50 for a bodycon dress and $50 for a pair of leggings. The most expensive of the 14-piece line is a $170 coat.

The designs are inspired by Jennifer’s own style. And if you thought you had a lot of clothes, this celeb says she owns 300 pairs of leggings!

”I’m the legging queen. What I love about a legging is, again, it’s a piece you can dress up or down and it’s still comfortable.”

Woman’s Wear Daily reports that QVC is excited about the line. Doug Howe, QVC’s executive vice president of merchandising, planning and sales, says: ”[Jennifer] has this great Cinderella story, an aspiration for different women. We don’t overtly go out to target someone who is Hispanic or African-American. We never look at it that way. It all starts with the person’s story and product. That dictates who buys it.”

    People please wake up and leave the plantations. Jennifer Hudson is just as fashionable as anybody in the business. Just her character alone have inspired millions all over the world. Reguardless of what is said about the lovely superstar. She has no limits, and will certainly do very well no doubt.

    I really like Jennifer Hudson as a singer and actress, but fashion designer? Not that I know this first hand, but someone else will be doing the designing (and sewing and stitching etc.), and Jennifer’s name will appear on the label just like Jennifer Lopez. I mean when and where did she learn to design clothing? Also, I wish celebrities would stop saying affordable because last I checked $75.00 for a maxi skirt is expensive. Whenever I spend $75.00 I’ll have at least 3 to 4 items at the check out register…not 1 skirt. Affordable? Puuuuuleeeez! I think I will stick with Steinmart, Kohl’s, New York and Company, Macy’s, Target and Ann Taylor loft.

        Ok JHud spokesperson. The way the body works is real. JHud was a tub before she got pregnant, after birth she suddenly slimmed down. Baby fat is the hardest thing to rid on a skinny person much less a tub. Get real, just like they want to make u think they never had plastic surgery and don’t age. GTFOHWTFBS!

            I’m not her spokesperson. This article is about her clothing line and your taking jabs about her weight. Why does it matter how she lost it shes healthy. If I had her personal trainer and Personal chief I’ll be as thin as her. Some people can be so obnoxious its ridiculous.

    I’m happy for Jennifer and I wish her much success, but celebrities putting out fashion lines has gotten kind of old. I’ll stick with the $30 and $40 dresses from JC Penney and Steinmart.
