You Need More People: Shaunie Says She Was ‘Blindsided’ By Basketball Wives Cuts

After “Basketball Wives” creator and executive producer Shaunie O’ Neal announced that she wouldn’t return to “Basketball Wives” for Season 5 unless three castmembers were cut, Kesha Nichols, Royce Reed, and Jennifer Williams all received pink slips. Now all of a sudden Shaunie is saying she was totally “blindsided” by the cut.

TMZ reports:

“Basketball Wives” star Shaunie O’Neal says it’s not her fault three cast members were axed … telling people she learned the news when everyone else did …

But Shaunie is telling friends, despite the accusations, the cuts were NOT made by her. Sources close to Shaunie tell TMZ she was blindsided by the news. Shaunie says the production company leaves her in the dark about everything after she butted heads with them over the violent direction the show was headed (i.e on-air brawls and cat-fights).

According to our sources, Shaunie is upset over the current situation and wants Shed Media (the production company) to know she is willing to walk away from the series if it becomes something she no longer believes in.

So, Shaunie expects us to believe that she had nothing to do with the cuts? Is Shaunie redefining the word “blindsided” to mean “not blindsided at all” the way her show has redefined “wife” to mean “not married to anyone”? Maybe Shaunie is saying that she was blindsided by who got cut — especially since many thought it would be Tami and Evelyn. Still, it is hard to believe that she isn’t exerting control over who is in and who is out.

Further, her threats about walking away from the show if it becomes something she no longer believes in doesn’t make sense. What could possibly happen now that would make her walk away considering she has stayed put despite what happened last season?

Shaunie trying to distance herself from the problems on that show is ridiculous considering she is the creator and executive producer. But I guess the reality show star’s finger pointing isn’t surprising considering she has already said: “I won’t take responsibility for what [the show] has turned into.” Clearly, she will place the responsibility on any and everyone else instead. Shaunie is hard to believe though because, like with this most recent backpedaling, it is evident she is all about the drama both on-screen and off.

    My favorite one was Royce. She told the truth through out her whole stay on the show. I despise suzie because she stay in ppl business. The only time she gets ratchet is when she notices how the other group of girls gang up on this one girl they consider to be weak. ( The reunion this season when she sorta blew up on keshia). Evelyn and Tammy can kick rocks. I bet anyone any amount of money they only go off on people because they are on tv and there is back up around them. Them two will fail to dog off some real street people.

    I am offended that Shaunie had the audacity to say she knew nothing about Jennifer, Kesha and Royce getting fired, when she previously stated that 3 people needed to be gone. All Shaunie does is talk out of both sides of her neck. Shaunie needs to get in her lane and stay there. Either she is going to be about business and conduct herself accordingly or she is going to be a ghetto hot mess (her words) and continue to sit back and watch Tami and Evelyn belittle and bully folks and make excuses for them and doing so while laughing at what they do and how they act (remember Kenya’s bungalow in Tahiti…yes Shaunie didn’t actually participate, but she was there and thought that Suzi and Evelyn’s childish behavior was funny!). SMH at the former Mrs. O’Neal.

    Shaunie has never taken any responsibility for anything that has gone on with this show. At this point she needs to do one of several things: 1) come clean about her original intentions with the show and what specific changes are in the works, 2) come clean about her true involvement with the production as an executive producer…basically what is that title for if you never know whats going on, or 3) stop all the talk call it what it is and shut it down. At this point she only does herself a disservice by constantly saying “I didn’t know” or “it wasn’t me” or “it was them” or “I am just as surprised as you”. Ultimately when the “ish” hits the fan it’s the captain that goes down with the ship. So either she is the captain of the ship or she isn’t….which ist it?…or does she even know?

    in a way, this is a case of the apple not falling far from tree…shaq never acknowledged his fault for all the drama with kobe during the lakers days…now shaunie is not acknowledging her part in this mess…i’ve been reading for weeks that she wanted a few people gone and that the show wasn’t what she wanted it to be…whatever..anyway, as much as people may want that psycho woman gone, she’s probably the ratings grabber along with evelyn…those two are not going anywhere. that means other, more marginal characters have to get the axe…

    Maybe somebody needs to educate us on how can you be creator, and executive producer of the show, and still not know who is getting fired! Or not have any, or at least some control, none what so ever, on the show!! I’m just confused that’s all. Someone needs to explain that to the people. Something stinks okay!!

    It would have been better if she had said it was nothing personal against the ladies that were cut. ( Even though we all know that’s not true still yet it would’ve been a more appropriate response.) Why not stand by your decision. The public is certainly not going to like you any more for denying you had anything to do with the cuts. She is looking real silly right now and digging a deeper hole for herself. Come Shaunie i’m starting to lose what little respect i had for you.

    I think pimped out Shaunie is doing what ever it takes to make herself look good including denying she had nothing to do with the firing but what goes around will come around if this show has been renewed it want last because most people are really angry that Shed Media chose to keep the bullies stinky Evelyn and Hood-rat Tammi.This does not say a lot about you Shaunie other than you will stabb people to the bone just as you did Jennifer,Keisha,and Royce to get your way and continue to use others to your advantage.Shame on you how can you hold your head up when you go out knowing that people are saying all sorts of negative things about you .

    Here we go again…………………..come on Shaunie, you are one of the executive producers of the show and you now claim you were blindsided by the cuts? Please……..in my opionion, the show needs to be canned for good. I will be surprised if she claims that she will walk from it all so she says, which I don’t believe, after she had made a fortune off the main two ignoranius foul mouth Evelyn and Tami. I say please, please stop watching, the more we stop watching, it will eventually go off air.

      YKW, Shaunie is an opportunistic, social climbing liar. She has made her feeling known regarding
      Jennifer, Ross and Keesha from the
      beginning. I hate a liar! She has never once said anything against
      Evelyn and Tammy acting like street monkeys.
      But, she gets upset because Jennifer filed a police report against
      someone striking her. If Shaunie wanted
      to put an end to what Ev and Tam were doing she could have at any time. Ppl have the right to express their opinion,
      U don’t have the right to strike anyone.
