Better Than The Kardashians? Rihanna is Oprah’s Next ‘Next Chapter’ Interview

Let’s go ahead and make peace with it. Oprah has succumbed to the pressures of pop culture media (or her investors) and will be going the sensational, rather than the edutainment, route until she can get OWN’s viewership where it needs to be. On the heels of interviewing 50 Cent—or Fif as she likes to call him—and the Kardashian Klan, Oprah announced that one of her upcoming “Next Chapter” interviews is Ms. Robin Fenty.

Yesterday, some fans tweeted to Oprah suggesting that she interview Rihanna soon and the talk show icon responded by saying it’s already in the works and will be airing some time in August. If we’re being honest, most of us only care about Rih Rih in relation to Chris Brown and since the singer gets all huffy anytime someone asks her about her past relationship, I’m curious how her chat with Oprah will go. There have been a lot of journalistic casualties courtesy of Rihanna’s tongue lashing, but I doubt she snapped on Oprah like that—hopefully. In 2009, Oprah did an entire show on domestic violence based off of the high-profile couple’s dispute so there’s no chance she’s not going to ask about the incident three years later, but I wonder just how candid Rihanna will be.

I’m really curious about what other interviews Oprah has up her sleeve now that she appears to be taking a new direction. But truthfully I’m even more shocked that she hasn’t landed that exclusive Blue Ivy interview yet. What’s up with that?

Do you think Rihanna is a good “Next Chapter” interview choice?

From what I remember Oprah has always sought out interviews for whats going on in the present and the stars of the present. Why wouldn’t you? While I do believe that Oprah’s ratings and channel are trying to gain viewers, I think the backlash of it all is really weird. Its almost as if people think she is trying to accomplish too much, and that she should have just had the show and be on her way. Gone is that day that people were told to reach for the stars.

I think she is not getting viewers because she didn’t think about the people without cable. I will never pay for television, and I think that a lot of the people who watched her show MAY have not had cable and don’t plan on getting it.

I think you’re right! I have basic cable and it doesn’t include OWN. I would watch it if I had it but I’m not paying for an upgrade.

      • Rayven

We have basic cable also and we get OWN, it guess it depends on your cable provider…

You could have a point about folks dont watch her channel ’cause they dont have cable, but most households have cable TV.

If you follow her on twitter then you get a good concept of who she is. She does what she wants, she likes to smoke, likes instagram, cuses like a sailor and she does what she wants.

I have NO desire to watch Rihanna on Oprah nor did I see The Kardashians interview Oprah did with them. I guess Oprah is doing anything to keep her views up…

I always have a lot to say about Rihanna, and I would honestly love her if she wasn’t so self destructive….I have not one once of respect for her but to be honest I don’t even know if I still care about their domestic incident, but I won’t hate if they touch on it lol, but for real Rihanna is an interesting person, well spoken funny, gives thee best answers, and I find her wayy more interesting than any Kardashian. Speaking of Kardashians how did it go last night ? I haven’t head or read anything regarding their interview. I guess there is nothing to talk about Same old Kardashians huh ?

You stated, “If we’re being honest, most of us only care about Rih Rih in relation to Chris Brown..” if that were the case then Oprah would interview CB instead of Rihanna. Give Fenty some credit, people love her or hate her, but they still want to know all about her. I think it’s a good pick for O’s new network.

    • Just saying!!

Exactly!!! You know how many people can’t stand him anyway? Maybe I’m just out of touch with today (not missing much musically) but I could have sworn she was a bigger star anyway…??
