Quit Crying Mayweather! The One-Two Punch Of Staying In Jail Doesn’t Compare To The Ones You Laid On Your Girl

To be an undefeated, five-division World Champion boxer, Floyd Mayweather Jr. is definitely acting like a wimp.

Mayweather went to jail on June 1st after pleading guilty to domestic battery for beating his girlfriend, threatening her and threatening two of their three kids. He was supposed to report earlier, but the judge allowed him to delay his reporting date so he could fight on Cinco De Mayo. Now, just 12 days after going to jail, the boxer’s lawyers have asked the judge to let him serve the remainder of his jail sentence from home. Why? Well, according to FoxSports.com, Mayweather says the low-quality food and water have threatened his health and he is losing muscle tone which puts his boxing career in jeopardy.

Cry me a river.

Not surprisingly, Las Vegas Judge Melissa Saragosa denied his request.

The LA Times reports:

After being taken into custody to begin his sentence in a domestic violence case, Mayweather “discovered his subjective understanding” of jail conditions “was inaccurate,” Judge Melissa Saragosa wrote in a decision Wednesday that voided a scheduled Thursday hearing on the matter. “These facts do not give rise to jurisdiction of this court to modify defendant’s sentence.”

Saragosa was told by Mayweather’s attorneys that the boxer’s plan to fight for two more years was in danger because jail deprives him of proper nutrition and exercise. In a 35-page request, the attorneys cited a doctor’s report that said Mayweather’s caloric intake was one-fifth as much as it was outside jail and that isolation effectively stops him from exercise.

Mayweather began an 87-day jail sentence on June 1 after pleading to domestic battery for a physical confrontation with the mother of his three children.

“The court finds the alleged dehydration of the defendant to be self-induced as water is made available to him 24 hours a day,” Saragosa wrote. “The court further finds the estimated intake of only 800 calories per day is also self-induced as defendant chooses not to eat the food provided.”

Saragosa added the physical training areas “may not be consistent with his prior regimen,” but, “he is indeed provided sufficient space and time for physical activity if he so chooses.”

Like the old saying goes: If you can’t do the time, then don’t do the crime. As if a man hitting his girlfriend isn’t enough, Mayweather is a professional boxer who hit his girlfriend in front of their two kids. He faced 34 years in prison and got a mere 90 days and now he is asking to serve the time at home? On what grounds? The fact that, as Fox Sports reported, he isn’t drinking enough because he isn’t allowed bottled water and doesn’t enjoy tap?

This kind of hubris is definitely not limited to Mayweather, but it is a prime example of celebrities thinking they should nearly get away with murder in the case of battering women. When Michael Vick was convicted of dogfighting, he was sentenced to 23 months in prison (I think he ended up serving 19). In comparison, Mayweather received a slap on the wrist for a more egregious crime. Then again, Pastor Creflo Dollar is still preaching on Sundays despite being accused of punching his 15-year-old daughter. How is that legal?

I definitely don’t support the lock-em-in-jail-and-throw-away-the-key justice system when it comes to black men in our country. But I also think there is a time to be held accountable for physically abusing women whether you’re Joe Blow living in Detroit, a top-selling R&B singer, the biggest pastor in Atlanta, or an undefeated pro boxer. Especially a pro boxer.

It’s sad that Mayweather is having to spend time away from his kids in order to spend time in solitary confinement, but maybe this will be a lesson to his own kids that, despite their father doing it in front of them, it’s not okay to be hit on by your boyfriend or to hit your girlfriend. Jail is not a five-star hotel, it’s punishment. Requesting to go back to your mansion in lieu of serving your time in jail is ridiculous.  If Mayweather’s career is that important to him then maybe he should have saved his punches for the boxing ring instead of laying them on his girlfriend.

What do you think about Mayweather’s request to serve the rest of his sentence on house arrest?

When did he become so spoiled? I’m sure jail wouldn’t feel like a spa to anybody, but man up, Mayweather!

  • Ms_Sunshine9898

girl, you hit the nail on the head!

I agree that he should stay in jail and the punishment Michael Vick received was ridiculous. As for Creflo I think people need to lay off. We don’t know what really transpired.

  • bkabbagej

Why was the author of this article inclined to mention Creflo Dollar? Was he found guilty and sentenced? Or did I miss something?
We know and understand the author wanted to make her article interesting and provocative but please don’t convict a person before the courts have found them to be guilty.
We have enough of that going on without printing such thoughtless comments but as for anyone else once convicted go to jail, no crying and accept whatever is happening to you.

  • kotano

    Well said!!

  • Gimmeabreak78

Mayweather has always been a punk to me. Anybody who feels the need to carry $50K on him at all times has some deep issues with over-compensation. Don’t even get me started on the fact that he makes his living beating grown men who SIGNED up to find him and are getting paid for it, but he has taken to putting hands on a woman who has no chance of physically defending herself against his assault. What a pig! I don’t think he should be locked away forever, but I do think we need to stop celebrating this man like he is some kind of hero.

  • Angela

He’s been saved by an angel, and is still making demands. His career is over. I hope he saved up, because that girlfriend of his is going to take him to the cleaners. And to think Chili wanted him….Wow.

    • vwells1

Right! She dodged a bullet. She was pinnnnning over that man and she didn’t even know…

  • sammi_lu

Awww in another 15 days them jailhouse spreads gone start tasting like gourmet..he’ll be aight, and he got enough room to do some pushups and spar with the air to stay fit.

  • Nikolai

Fl mayweather..nobody cares about your pity party except maybe your girlfriend fifty cents.we all know that’s your butt buddy batty boi.
    i can’t stand women beaters..ugh

    • D. Rose in the paint

some women truly ask to get hands put on them…they run that mouth hitting below the belt..they do stuff to emotionally hurt men, and BOOM they get touched! I’ve seen it happen too many times in my life.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1576132682 Barbara Ransom

You are a complete MORON! It is NEVER acceptable for a man to beat on a woman. You mean to tell me that there are some men who are such pansies that when their feelings get hurt the only way they can cope is thru physical violence. I hope you don’t have children that you are teaching this crap to.

        • D. Rose in the paint

Actually Im far from a moron and I dont agree with this unspoken rule
that its NEVER acceptable for a man to hit a woman. I believe in cause
and effect. I believe some women ask for violence through their words
and actions. Some women are emotionally and mentally abusive and many
men are insecure and have emotional issues. Some women understand this
and push their buttons. I’ve seen my aunts do this to their husbands
countless times, and it always end up ugly. Some women are low life
bit##es with no class and respect for humanity. I dont place all women
on pedestals because I know better. Women with respect get treated
          likewise.

          • http://twitter.com/LeopardBrownie Beanz

Wow. You might as well admit that you hit women. You say you’re not a moron but you sure do sound like one. The thoughts you have will put you in the same place that mayweather is in now.

            • MLS2698

Wow, yes! When people use words like “push buttons” that’s a clear sign of anger issues, and the elevator buttons don’t go all the way to the top for that kind of man. Can’t speak for the aunts and uncles, but I think its time to leave when a man feels the need to hit.

          • MLS2698

So far, you got no “likes” for this one. I guess saying that on a woman’s site gets thumbs down.

            • D. Rose in the paint

Do you honestly believe I stated this so it could be “liked”? I don’t live for women’s approval, I’m a real man I DO THE APPROVING! The truth is never liked, if I wanted to be liked I would just agree with everybody else thats easy! The truth is a lot of times a lonely place and Im quite comfortable there.

        • D. Rose in the paint

I think Nikki said all that needs to be said….read below

      • Nikki

I think I understand what D. Rose in the paint is saying. I have seen women get extremely aggressive with their mouth and actions. I’ve seen them push, slap, and punch men and then stare at them with the “so what ar u gonna do” face. In those instances then they deserve what they get. And I am a woman saying that. As a woman who knows that men are stronger I would never put myself into that sort of situation. Not to say that I would let a man run over me, but if you get into an argument and you hit a man off with “that’s why the baby you’ve been raising for the past 6 years isn’t yours” then you have to know that nothing good is going to come from that.

Personally I think that no one should be putting their hands on each other period or hitting below the belt with words. But if you want to jump out there and be Billy Bad A** then you have to deal with the reprecussions. Just to be clear it is NEVER ok for hands to be laid for simple situations like burning the toast or crashing the car. That is unless the crazy broad tried to run the dude over with it.

        • D. Rose in the paint

Nikki if i met you I would give you a big kiss on the cheek! I applaud your honesty, unbiased opinion, bravery, and mature insight. Thank you! It takes a true mature individual to see situations from all sides! This society is filled with selfish women who have been raised on the “women are always right” card, (which in many cases has placed men behind bars for false charges) and has raised a nation of spoiled Princesses. But I respect your stated opinion, NOT because it agrees with me, BUT because you showed me that you can think for yourself and you can step out of the black woman norm of being defensive and admit a wrong! RESPECT!

          • Nikki

Thanks! I believe that you can’t truly understand situations/people until you have looked from both sides. I also believe in people being held accountable for their actions. I have witnessed first hand the actions of some really scandalous women so I can understand how a man could get taken there. The truth hurts that’s why people get upset when it is spoken. Every action comes with a consequence. I think it’s interesting that you are being labeled a woman beater in this thread because I don’t recall you saying that you go around smacking down women in your spare time. You specifically named an instance of when it could happen. There is a significant difference between a habitual woman beater and a man who has just learned some earth shattering news in the meanest way possible and lashed out. A woman beater consciously wants to beat on his mate for control purposes. The latter is an extreme circumstance. People can only take so much.

            • MLS2698

With all the men who leave women and children for various reasons, why wouldn’t this one leave if he feels he is being abused, himself? What’s keeping him there?

        • D. Rose in the paint

And THIS right here…..”that’s why the baby you’ve been raising for the past 6 years isn’t yours”……is REAL!! Thats A GREAT EXAMPLE OF WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT!!!! Kudos sweetheart!! This is enough to drive a man crazy!! If he ONLY beat your ass….consider yourself LUCKY!!
