Does This Help At All? Oprah Explains Why She Interviewed The Kardashians

Most of us have already figured out why Oprah’s really interviewing the Kardashians, but telling people she sold her soul to the reality TV devil just to keep her drowning network afloat likely wouldn’t fly for her brand. Hence, Oprah’s come up with a more earth mother, journalistic explanation for her controversial interview that she hopes will quiet the sellout backlash that’s been directed her way. Here’s what she wrote in a personal message to viewers:

Ok my friends I had the longest interviewing session I can ever recall, talking to ALLLLLLLL the Kardashians. I had never met them, nor seen the show. I did a full on Kardashian Kram in preparation, watching major shows from every season. I genuinely wanted to know why they have become a cultural phenomenon? Why do so many people love to watch their every move and why do so many others love to hate them. Are they completely ego centered? Are they really “famous for being famous” or is there something more?

I “GOT IT” … those answers +more. Those of you who watch the show know they hold nothing back. This interview I’d say was another level of forthrightness and honesty. Who surprised me the most? Scott. Lamar and Khloe. Kim.

Everyone who’s asked was the marriage a publicity stunt? Why did she leave after 72 days? Her answer leveled me.

Please note that this show will air Sunday at 8/7 central not its usual time. Followed by Part 2 of my conversation with 50 Cent at 9/8c where he talks about things you wouldn’t imagine coming from him. Meditation. Outgrowing his audience. What really matters now. I had a great eye opening experience with him and released a lot of my preconceived notions and judgement. I’m loving this NEXT CHAPTER I get to do for myself what I intended for you the audience: Open the heart space, expand the way we see things, especially each other.

A great day on OWN beginning with Super Soul Sunday at 11am/10c with Devon Franklin (thanks for your many “likes” on that one), hope you’ll tune in. An insightful visit with the Kardashians, every single one of them except 2 year old Mason. Then FIF.

Oprah

Fif? She’s really rocking this pop culture thing now isn’t she? Oprah has clearly gotten caught up in the Kardashian magic. She sounds like Star Jones after she sat down and talked to Evelyn—something about these shady characters just captivates people and turns them from enemies into friends instantly.

I can’t imagine anyone of the siblings saying anything different from what we’ve already heard from one of the zillion interviews they’ve done before, but Oprah obviously seems to think so.

Check out the promo clip here. Will you watch Sunday?

You either hate or love the kardashians. Americans got them to where they are now, whether by saying how much you love them or how much you hate them, the society is obsessed with them. It’s fascinating how a family can build a huge brand from a sex tape. Oprah, is doing her job as an interviewer to understand how they became a cultural obsession. From their father’s involvement with O.J trial, to their exotic looks, to their love for black men, to how they try to come off rich down to earth family, to Kim’s fashion styles, and they portray that they might do crazy things but they are still cool people. I personally think they played their cards well. I don’t blame them, I blame us, the society feeding into it just like how popular Snooki is in Jersey Shore. A show mainly based on sex and drinking. So, we should look at ourselves as a society.

I’m just disappointed. I really thought she was above the “fame” seeking fray. I’m done. SHe can give all the “I’m so enlightened” speeches she wants. I think she has been excelling so long that she bought her own hype along the way. Anyone can fail at something – even Oprah. It’s how you deal with the failure. This is NOT the way.

Desperate times call for desperate measures I guess…

  • moco

Soo…did she also watch the sex tape?

Oprah is not the Aquarius I know she is suppose to be. Her network is slipping into the decline, so she is pulling stunts just to get ratings duh……thats obvious. In my opinion she should retire and get more involved in helping the youth of this country especially in the black community. She has the money and the time. She should just become the full on humanitarian she was born to be..Get away from these reality tv slores. it’s sad that these people are the role models to our youth. Whatever happened to our morals and beliefs handed down to us from our grandmother and great-grandmother and so on. If they were alive now they would slap the eye balls out that behind. Its so sad what today’s society has turned into. so sad.

I agree with you 100%….Especially the part about the lost of moral/values and poor examples presented to youths.

I lost all respect for Oprah, she could of interviewed someone else instead of this white trashy family.

I seen part one of the 50 sent and he seemed really bashful. I would understand because he called his dog Oprah. But the Kardashians? The really need cut Ray J a check with HIM it would’ve been THEM. Who was Kim before the tape?

    • Love_Sexy

Agree with you about the Kardashians…..They need to cut him a check because Kim was nothing prior….LOL!

  • Love_Sexy

Bullsh*t!………I am finish with Miss Winfrey.

I think a lot of people seem to forget that Oprah is already successful, but her interviews are different because they are more down to earth and captures a different view of those people. The kardashians are overall funny, but I respect them because they are positive people. Over the years you can see the maturation of characters; you see the highs and lows of personal issues involving self, family, job, and relationships which is like any other family. I think Oprah’s purpose of this interview was to bring out a better understanding of the Kardashian’s to viewers so that it revamps the negative image that a lot Americans seem to have of them.

      @Truth,
I used to watch the show but stopped a while ago. How is that family positive? The mother had an affair while married to Rob Kardashian, the whole family is so vain with all the plastic surgeries etc, etc. The children show NO respect for the parents to the point they curse at them when talking to them, Kourtney has two children out of wedlock and doesn’t plan on getting married at all. Kim in my view is a user of people and very vain. Rob, the son is just lazy. Khloe is disrespectful as well, but seems a bit more down to earth. The tow youngest daughters are spoiled rotten. I give you the highs and lows on their personal issues but that is it.

      • Mia

I never really watched the show, but I saw the one where the mom pushed Kim to pose in Playboy, I was disgusted. What kind of mother pushes her daughter to pose in lingerie? I felt hella bad for Kim, and I’m not a Kim fan AT ALL!
