Dude, What Are You Thinkin?!? Trey Songz’ New Song “2 Reasons” Falls Way Short

Remember not too long ago, Trey Songz was walking around claiming he wanted to be the next Marvin Gaye? Well, womp to all of that. His latest video and single “2 Reasons” proves he’s not at all ready or capable, really of taking that title. It’s clear the brotha is confused about who Marvin was and what his music was about. Check out the video for “2 Reasons” below and then we can discuss afterward.

The song started off with so much promise. It would have been a nice little summer club jam but I just can’t get with being called a “b–ch” throughout an entire song. I’ve been known to dance to songs I didn’t all the way support but this certainly won’t be one of them. As one person noted, why couldn’t he have said “chicks and the drinks” or something else less derogatory? It’s just so tasteless. And though I’ve been enjoying the moves T.I. has been making as of late, I have to give him a severe side eye as well. I noticed he didn’t say the word b–ch in his verse but even being associated with this lazy, mediocrity is not a good look when you have a teenaged-step daughter. Is that how you’ll want men to refer to her when she and her girlfriends go out to the clubs in a couple of years?

The whole thing is just so played out. But as I’m typing these words I know there’s some woman out there downloading the single to her iPod, there’s a DJ adding it to his rotation and there’s a lost little girl practicing dance moves to this ridiculous track in her bedroom mirror.

The cycle continues.

I think Trey Songz is sooo fine…but I’m kinda over his music…it’s all the same now…I mean we get it, you’re a freak, you’re fine, and you pop bottles…it’s kinda old now and this song sucks

  • ebonyhud

This is so ridiculous that it sounds like a parody! I actually laughed. I can’t take this seriously. I like T.I’s verse, but I would def step to the side if this came on and I was dancing.

  • Jay

Just in case I liked the beat I didn’t even watch the video. So not supporting that

A huge and am so so so disappointed in this, really Trey? I thought he was going somewhere good with the new Heart Attack and Top of the World track, but this one here spoiled it all in my mind.
I believe he is confused or have some serious personality issue.

  • princ essa

isnt this just a ratchet version of bottoms up..really these guys need 2 grow up…we no longer checkin 4 dis in 2012

There are 2 reasons I won’t download this song: 1) Ignorance & 2) Stupidity. As for being the next Marvin Gaye, negro pleaasssssseee.

    • NOT YOUR FRIEND

Off topic – You are using the word ‘ignorant’ incorrectly.

it’s just sad because when Trey Songz was putting out deep songs on albums like Gotta Make It, Trey Day and even some on Ready, people clowned him and made it really difficult. Now he sold out and doing disrespectful and degrading mess like this and he still don’t have the respect he trynna look for. It’s so disappointing because his earlier works stayed on repeat and i couldn’t get past the 1st verse of this song. As a black woman, i feel attacked nowadays when i listen to urban music. I also wonder how the women featured in these type of videos feel. I know money trumps everything but how do they feel as just people ya kno

  • Greggn

This is exactly how I felt about Fat Joe’s verse in Chris Brown’s song “Another Round”. Really? Now I like CB as far as his talent is concerned. His personal life may be a little sketchy, but when I heard Joe’s verse, I cringed. I now forward the song past Joe’s verse in an effort to enjoy the rest of it. You don’t have to be crass to make a good record. Sadly too many of us support them so they will keep putting it out there.

Is Trey trying to be an R. Kelly????Minus the b*tches in his song it sounds reminiscent of something kelly did sometime ago.

  • Melice

Seriously….Trey grow up!!! Marvin Gaye wanna be…you don’t even come close with this garbage!!! We’re a lot sick of the b-word…ask your mother. And TI…a married man with teenage daughter acting a fool with a bunch of video tricks. Both of you need to grow up!!! UGHHHH smdh

you all have to realize that urban/hiphop music is not getting any cleaner, its only getting dirtier and more derogatory. i mean just look at the ‘beat the p***y up’ song. i cant believe that even made it to radio. even the edited verion is bad enough.

    • Numero Uno

I know right! I couldn’t believe when I first heard that “Beat the p up” song on the radio. I was like it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out what is being said despite the editing.

    • ChelleBell

I hate that song so much…dude who sings it is so annoying

I fell off with Trey Songz about two albums ago. This song in particular is so immature. Trey needs to advance musically. He has been the same Trey since forever. His sound, style, music….it’s all the same ! I agree with whomever said more artist need to start pushing their voices, explore other ranges and sounds….

    Ever
since he FAILED his BET Awards performance of Prince Purple Rain… I
was done with the boy. I can never tell how talented he is or is not but
clearly he was not prepared to do Prince justice. I do believe Patti
came and salvaged the Purple Rain performance later on in the evening.

As far as the song. Played, played and double played. I really hope
we have in the forseable future music catering to female upliftment now
that we are starting to agree the demeaning attitudes toward women is
just whack! Ehhh. B—-’s though? Are we still calling women b—’s,
    Grown Man?

    • GBz

OMG, that Purple Rain performance was the BEST trainwreck performance ever! But it also marked the fact that he wasn’t as talented as I thought and I’ve been pretty much done with him ever since.

  • Tagirl

I think his vice is nice but the subject matter/lyrics of his songs will prevent him from ever getting within a mile of Marvin. Many times I like the music and production over his actual songs(i.e the BCox produced “The Last Time.” I like to listen to the instrumental.)

Really, Trey? i mean… u havent been a favorite of mine in a good min, and once again i see why…

  • bluekissess

Trey Songz was never talented to me. If there was a yodeling contest he would win hands down. The b¡tches and høes phase is getting old that’s why I don’t listen. I find myself at 25 years old listening to Al Green’s “How to mend a broken heart” & Micheal Jackson’s “Lady of my life” on repeat. Is Trey pop, hip hop or R&B? Whatever I wonder when he’s gonna come out the closet. Lying to his fans isn’t cool

  • traci

I agree, very disappointed in this track….trash

I use to be huge Trey Songz fan loved his albums Gotta Make It, Trey Day and Ready. After Ready he lost his touch and became extremely cocky and I don’t like this new route he has taken with these repeated songs and similar music style. SO with that being said I am not feeling this track AT ALL. He needs either to find new management take a serious musical break and reflect and come out with some good work. He needs to ask Usher.

Song is a club banger and wouldve been cute if he used something other than the b-word. Im not saying I wont listen but ummmmm…Trey why?
