Would You Wear It? NeNe Leakes is Creating a Fashion Line

The Real Housewives of Atlanta castmember and self-described “Queen of TV”, NeNe Leakes, is launching her own fashion line. I know, we’re sort of shocked too.

According to The Hollywood Reporter

On Tuesday, the 44-year-old mother of two announced that she has signed with global brand licensing agency Beanstalk to make her move into fashion. Beanstalk says in an announcement tied to Licensing Expo 2012, now going on in Las Vegas, that it intends to “leverage NeNe’s position in pop culture to offer consumers fashion-forward, affordable apparel and accessories, designed to empower women to walk into a room and ‘own it’ — like NeNe herself.”

No deals are signed yet, but Beanstalk will look to license a range of consumer products built around fashions that will appeal to the women who have watched her evolve on the show.

“While the fame of reality television characters is often short-lived and fleeting,” said Michael Stone, Beanstalk’s president and CEO, “NeNeLeakes has displayed versatility that has enabled her to transition from being a Real Housewives personality to a featured television star on Glee. NeNe’s multi-faceted personality and aspirational style will translate well into products that will emotionally connect with her fans.”

Said Allison Ames, president of North America at Beanstalk: “NeNe’s rise to fame has eclipsed that of any other reality television star today, providing a real opportunity to extend her brand.”

NeNe Leakes is easily the most popular of the Housewives in Atlanta (and the highest paid!). She may even be the most popular including all of the Housewives shows. However, to say “her fame has eclipsed that of any other reality television star today” is quite a leap considering the Kardashians. Coincidentally, they have a clothing line too and it is terrible.

NeNe isn’t the first Housewife to create a fashion line but we’re hoping she has better luck than castmate Sheree whose “She by Sheree” clothing line was a total failure a couple of years ago. Remember the “fashion show with no fashion?” Sheree blamed Atlanta for the flop, but maybe NeNe can prove her wrong.

We’ll definitely be watching, but will you be wearing?

    I actually think NeNe dresses great for a woman of her size and age. Do I think she has a vision for designing great clothing? …That remains to be seen. I’ll check for it though

    I will reserve judgment till after I see the pieces. If I was to ever purchase anything, it wouldn’t have anything to do with her. I don’t buy clothing just because it’s a celebrity line. I buy things because I think they’re cute.

    No.. I would not buy it. I don’t support women who are a negative impact on black women and made a living off acting ignorant, cussing and having a foul mouth. The Kardashian line is terrible and I don’t support any of them as well.
