Be a Rebel: 6 Life Rules You Should Definitely Break

June 13th, 2012 - By Kendra Koger

As women, it seems like sometimes our lives are dictated by a set of rules that we just have to adhere to.  There are some rules that people flake on (wearing white after Labor Day) or the ones that some women follow religiously (like the man should be the one to pay for everything on a date).  Well, as times are a-changing. It’s my opinion (meaning that you can take this info or leave it) that some rules are meant to be broken… or at least amended.

P.S.  Get ready to click, and don’t act like you don’t like it.  We all know that you secretly do!

Wow, are you actually suggesting that women:
    1) When it comes to fashion, put their health over sh*tting on other women (I’ve always said hearing “no” is more offensive to women than hearing the word “b#tch”)
    2) Actually risk tasting some humble pie when courting men
    3) Not just say they have their own money, but actually prove it by coming up out of pocket more often during dates
    4) Come to the realization they aren’t just the most awesome person on the planet than men should just feel fortunate enough to have ever known, and that relationships are a two way street
    5) Forego their convenient independence
    This is truly groundbreaking stuff.

Nice article. The asking guys out and “let the men do it” ones apply to me. I asked my boyfriend of 2.5 years out and I’m so glad I did. It took a month of my friends urging me since I was so nervous but I did it and I’m glad I did! Women miss out on so many good things with this “he has to approach me” mentality. I’ve seen it with my friends personally.

The “let the men” do it one annoys me to no end. Now I understand that they are biologically physically stronger than us but we are NOT that helpless! Hell, our ancestors used to lift heavy loads and other hard jobs PREGNANT as slaves. I have no problem asking a man to help me when I need it, and I also have no problem when they ask me if I need help. I just don’t like the whole “let the men do it” mentality in general. Sets us back.

Nice article. I’m a “rebel” deep down so I don’t disagree with anything listed here. Some of your readers aren’t gonna fall for this though but you can’t always do everything by the book. Guess it just depends on the situation as well. Rules are meant to be broken sometimes.

I thought this article was going to be about going against the grain, and not following the status quo. Getting out of your comfort zone, leap of faith type of deal. It’s not a bad article, it just wasn’t what I expected.

I agree. I had this image that this would break the everyday mold. Often women are so caught up in the idea of being “everything” that they forget to go out and be adventurous or just open. Sigh… This is just an article that lists how “independent” one can be… if this was the 1960′s I could see this article as a semi-value. Now? Not so much.
