LdC: So, that’s quite a path. (Whew!) So from this, how did you decide to start your own agency and what is its mission, exactly?
Behind the Click: Kendra Bracken-Ferguson, Co-Founder of Digital Brand Architects
July 25th, 2012 - By Lauren DeLisa Coleman
KBF: There is a great quote by [sculptor] Henry Moore that really sums up the day I met Karen Robinovitz, my co-founder: “One never knows what each day will bring. The important thing is to be open and ready for it.” I met Karen and was open to collaborating and taking a leap of faith to do something I had never imagined. We literally met one day and launched the agency several weeks later. We had the same vision, same philosophies and ideas on social and digital media.
We chose the name Digital Brand Architects for one reason. Our goal is to be the architects of an ongoing strategy with the power to influence.
LdC: How would you say your past experience has helped you in this endeavor? What advice might you have for other women out there who have varied experience and are contemplating how to bring it all together?
KBF: Innovation is disruptive!
Entrepreneurship is the lifeblood of a new economy, a more prosperous society, and the engine that keeps communities growing. Two thirds of the new jobs created are in small businesses. The opportunities are greater than any other time in history to innovate, explore and create something new.
LdC: Do you ever feel gender or race has been an issue?
KBF: Fortunately in my industry women are generally the main players and decision makers. I often forget when I step outside of communications, marketing and the fashion/beauty industries that women are facing gender inequality. Early in my career this was something I dealt with and had to work even harder to overcome.
No one gets to choose their race, gender, parents or siblings and we must push past the things we can’t change to move towards the things we can change.
LdC: What advice would you have for others dealing in client-based situations?
KBF: Do not be afraid to fail. And DO NOT be afraid to succeed.
