What Would You Do? Sprinklers Spray “Black Ooze” On Bride’s Suite and Wipes Out Bridal Party

June 6th, 2012 - By Marissa Ellis

On her wedding day, every bride just hopes that Murphy’s Law doesn’t take effect. To the dismay of Shalita Harris, it did – in a major way. Moments after Harris and her bridal party finished preparing for the wedding, the sprinkler system in the bridal suite of the Westin Hotel in Atlanta went off and sprayed “black oily liquid” on their gowns. SMH.

Paramedics and firefighters were called in to address this bizarre incident, and members of the wedding party reported breathing problems and had to be taken to the hospital. Nevertheless, the show went on with two of the eight bridesmaids in attendance in their black stained dresses.

The Westin Hotel has stated that the cause of the sprinkler malfunction is still unknown. Harris seemed calm enough when talking to the news reporter. How would you have reacted?

I wonder if they hung anything from the sprinklers. My dumb roommate did that in college and it made the sprinklers go off. Black water also came out of the system also because it had been sitting in their for years without use.

Whatever, Give me my money back, pay for everything that was ruined, and give me a complimentary hotel room and I’m good.

The hotel needs to step up and pay for this mess. Reimburse the bridal party, whoever paid for the hall, etc. If they don’t their reputation will take a severe hit.

That hotel should have paid to have their dresses cleaned or pay to cover replacement dresses.

I agree, since when does “black colored liquid” just happen to blast through the sprinkler system when ALL the party of the wedding is in that room. I mean it could have been a fluke, but DANG!

Isn’t water supposed to come out of sprinklers? Sounds weird.

Yea, that seems like a set up. She may have pissed off one of the staff and they rigged it to go off. That is a shame.

okay,i’m glad that they were we’re able to keep a level head during this OUTRAGEOUS event, but seriously, they NEED to be reimbursed for this.whether it’s a free hotel stay or just giving them back their money or something like that.because that’s not right.

I’m glad they focused on what was important too. Looks like they still accomplished what they came for. I use to work for Starwood Hotels (Westin, The W Hotel, Sheraton….) I’m sure they are going to do something to compensate for the sprinklers going off, destroying property, and causing injuries. I bet they could get a lovely honeymoon on a resort…a island of their choice :)

Those dresses were RUINED – I’m sure the bridesmaids paid for them too.
