Rihanna Flips Out and Reminds Another Reporter She’s Not Down For The Chris Brown Messy Ish

Rihanna keeps on proving Twitter isn’t the only place she will get crunk when someone tries to come for her head. It was only a little over a month ago that she shut down a reporter in London when they took the focus off of her “Battleship” premiere and placed it on her rumored relationship with Ashton Kutcher. Apparently Esquire UK didn’t get the memo because when they tried to bring up C. Breezy and that “Birthday Cake” remix from way back when for the magazine’s June issue, the interview went from bad to worse to this is probably the last time she’ll ever talk to Esquire again. Here’s the transcript from Necole Bitchie so you can see the gradual progression of ann0yance:

Esquire: What has been the Twitter response to the Chris Brown remixes?

Rihanna: Some love it, some hate it, some love it but hate that we did it. But the response in the end has been incredible.

Esquire: Was that [the recording session] the first time you’d seen him in a while?

Rihanna: When would we have seen each other? We’ve both been working and touring. [changes the subject]. This is really good food.

Esquire: It proved quite a controversial thing.

Rihanna: Well…definitely. Definitely. It caught me a little off-guard to be honest…especially the amount of…negative attention. Because it never occurred to me how this was a problem, you know. It really didn’t.

Esquire: Because enough time had passed that it was OK?

Rihanna: I thought people were gonna be surprised that we finally did a record together, but I didn’t see how people could think it was a bad thing, you know? In my mind, it was just music.

Esquire: Some people felt it sent the wrong message.

Rihanna: [Angrily] What was that? What message would that be?

Esquire: You’d gone back to someone who put you in the hospital.

Rihanna: [Getting angry] Oh really? Did I?

Esquire: Well… yes.

Rihanna: Did I? Did I? Did I?

Esquire: You went and recorded with him, yes.

Rihanna: Okay. In a completely professional environment. And on a complete professional note. I mean, if I went back to him [as a girlfriend], then that’s a whole different discussion. And if I ever do, then that’s something that y’all have to talk to me about when – if – that ever happens. Until then, look at it for what it is. I think a lot of people jumped to an assumption that was incorrect and they ended up looking stupid.

Esquire: The assumption you were dating again?

Rihanna: Because of a song. How stupid. If I was together with every collaborator I worked with… f-ck my life.

Esquire: Still, the lyrics didn’t do much to dispel that impression. His opening line is “Girl I want to Fawk you right now/been a long time/I’ve been missing your body”. You reply: “Remember how you did it/If you still want to kiss it/Then come and get it”.

Rihanna: That was the tone before he was even on the record. You think it was going to be about hopscotch or jump rope?

Esquire: So neither of you for a minute thought “This is going to put the cat among the pigeons”?

Rihanna: I could never see anything wrong with making music.

Esquire: Maybe the thing is that as an artist your personal and private life are intertwined, and you’ve already played on this. The first song you put out after the beating incident was “Love the Way You Lie”, about domestic violence.

Rihanna: Absolutely. But Love The Way You Live was me as an artist working with Eminem as an artist, telling our stories individually. On a track together. I’m lost. I’m confused as to what you’re trying to get at.

Esquire: That it’s hard to separate the person who’s been the victim of domestic violence and the pop star singing about domestic violence.

Rihanna: I know. And that’s how f-cked up society is. There’s a lot of sh-t y’all can’t get over. Y’all holding your breath on a lot of stuff that doesn’t matter. When you realize who you live for, and who’s important to please, a lot of people will actually start living. I am never going to get caught up in that. I’m gonna look back on my life and say that I enjoyed it – and I lived it for me- and God. This is turning into a tacky interview. What do you really want to talk about? I’m not here to [talk] about messy sh-t.

Esquire: It’s just what’s been making the headlines recently.

Rihanna: OK! So do you want to talk about everything on Google? Or do you want to talk about stuff that my fans want to know? Let’s get to the real stuff. The stuff that’s important.

Esquire: What do your fans want to know?

Rihanna: You tell me, as a journalist. You’re asking the questions and I give you the answers. I can’t give the questions too.

Esquire: I’m sorry it’s upset you.

Rihanna: It hasn’t upset me. It upsets me that you keep asking the same kind of questions about stuff that’s trivial. What’s there to talk about? Are all your questions like that? Let’s move onto the next one.

Esquire: It’s just that you haven’t given an interview for a while. A lot has happened.

Rihanna: You think I haven’t given an interview for a while? I did four this morning.

Esquire: Did they go any better than this?

Rihanna: We’ll see [when they come out] tomorrow

That last line was classic but I have mixed feelings on this. I’m sure she’s tired of talking about Chris but there’s no way she thought she was just going to put a song out with him and no one was going to ask her about it. In fact I’m pretty sure that’s why she did it, so she can save that “he’s the hottest artist out right now” line for someone else. On the other hand, her comebacks are to die for and made this interview far more entertaining than it would have been otherwise. That girl has a serious mouth on her.

Who do you think crossed the line here, Rihanna or the reporter?

For someone who believes in keeping her personal life and career seperate, she does not do a very good job of maintaining the distinction. If you are constantly posting pictures to Instagram and Twitter of you doing things that concern your personal life, youre fair game. If you dont want people to have an opnion about something dont give them a reason to, and in the least be prepared to handle the criticism that comes along with it. There are many SUCCESSFUL artists and entertainers alike who are constantly in the public eye but rarely have any controversy surronding them. Her rebuttal to the reporters questions are immature and childish. She needs to stop and think.

  • Shay

It was obvious that the journalist was trying to upset Rihanna. He was told numerous times to move on to the next question, and he didn’t seem able to do so. It was as if he only came with one question and he was going to ask it 80 different ways. Also, I agree with Rihanna, your personal and professional lives are separate, so singing a song with someone doesn’t put them together. Just like actors who kiss on screen aren’t real life couples (mostly). To be honest with you, they didn’t even have to be in the studio together to make that song. It would really surprise me if they were.

I think all of y’all are forgetting that the reporter is just doing his or her job. Its unethical, but he or she is there to sell ad space by getting a soundbyte or reaction. I think it was very intrusive, but I understand why a journalist would pry.

Rihanna could’ve gotten Trey Songz on that track and it would’ve been hot. Chris didn’t make the song hot but he helped make it sell. The fact that they dated and he beat her up is why people even care to listen to it. Rihanna may be delusional but she’s not that stupid!! She stirred up the drama and now she’s acting like she’s annoyed by it. GTFOH!!

  • Stephanie

LOL…..I think she’s a little strange BUT she’s quick with the mouth and the journalist should have felt stupid because she tore him/her up! LOL!!!!!!

  • Lovi

Dats what I’m talkin about RihRih. Ur music should be what’s important, ur personal life~ who u do, don’t do, see and don’t see THAT’S UR PERSONAL BUSINESS. And has nothing to do with them or anyone else outside of ur profession. Ur music is all I’ve ever cared about. Keep doin you and handle the interviewers just like u did this one. Sometimes they do NEED TO BE PUT IN THEIR PLACE!

  • Mity53

OMG! I think it is good, that they let the past be the past. They have grown up since then, it is over. The media is so annoying. So what, they are in the public eye and public put them there; does that give the right to always be in their faces concerning their private lives? It is show business not ‘THIS IS YOUR LIGE”. my GOD, LEAVE THEM ALONE ALREADY —– GIVE THEM PEACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LET THEM LIVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • Goldie

You mean to tell me, out of all the RnB male singers out there, they pick him to do the duet and don’t expect anyone to question the decision? They both knew exactly what they were doing. Great PR stunt and lots of $.

She seems very, very young and very, very impetuous. Neither her nor Chris seem very mature for their age.

I’m sorry to break it to her, but there is NO WAY you could do a song with your attacker and not have people question it. You should have been prepared, and sometimes it’s hard to face people’s questions but its how you actually MAKE THOSE MILLIONS. You know what the sad part is? She bent over backwards to show she would still work with him, follow him on twitter, talk about what a great artist he is, etc. Yet this dude beat the mess out of her AND now just made a song about what a wh*re she is. Honestly. This is the person you keep running to protect?

Underneath it all, I don’t think she thinks very highly of herself. She can’t. And I’d be worried that drugs and alcohol don’t claim her, because that seems to be trap for a lot of these wayward artists.

    • Shay

Everyone is upset that Rihanna has “forgiven” Chris,
but I don’t think she has. I think she has just decided to move on.
She just doesn’t want to keep dwelling on the past. It’s something that
has happened to her, but she can’t play victim all of her life. I think a lot of her behavior was not thought out (clearly) and was done to stir the pot (which it obviously did).

As for CB, I believe that you have to be scum of the earth to call anyone a derogatory name, especially the woman you were convicted of beating.

Rihanna, shows that she’s human as opposed to trying to portray perfect angel, and that alone is a good thing. The interviewer should let it go, she doesn’t want to talk about it. It’s okay that she showed her frustration, the interviewer is annoying. I don’t like the content of the song but I was glad to see Chris and Rihanna work together again.

  • Trisha_B

This song is old, time to move on! Rihanna knew the song was gonna cause controversy, but i think she thought it would have been positive. Her, Rihanna, the victim, doing a song w/ her ex, the abuser, was A way of showing the public that she has forgiven him & they (we) need to do the same. That’s how i took the song. If they had did a song about love together, it would have been a problem, they would have did a dance record it would have been problem. So i don’t think the lyrics/content of the song has anything to do w/ it. People just expect Rihanna to hold this grunge against Chris. Chris didn’t personally lay a hand on me, so if Rihanna has moved on why should i dwell on it? I think Rihanna also feels guilty. Not saying she deserved to get beat like that. But Chris was painted as the abuser in their relationship & she was the good girl who did nothing wrong. But it has already been known that Rihanna would do & say mean things to Chris. Just looking at her interviews, you can tell she’s not one to hold her tongue. So i think she feels bad for not telling the whole truth about their relationship about how she also had an abusive strike. They just need to leave them alone, i love both artist. Rihanna’s comebacks had me dying. The journalist should have known better, but knew he would get that reaction out of Rihanna. She got mad when he would imply they are sleeping w/ each other.

    • Shay

I agree. There are many people who are upset about the song, but there are many more who are loving it. Just turn on the radio and you’ll know what I’m saying. Also, I don’t think it was Rihanna’s idea. She’s an entertainer. She’s not the producer, she’s not the song writer, she’s not the label, so there were others pushing it. I don’t know what part she played in the “violence” part of the relationship, but I know Chris went too far. No matter what she said or did to him that night warranted the abuse she received.

  • bluekissess

I love her come back. You go girl

  • Ashley

did she really just say living her life for god?lol. sorry rihanna but i doubt you would be comfortable doing 99.999999% of the things you say and do if you really tryna live your life for god.

god doesn’t judge us the way we crucify each other. god loves all of us just as we are. what kind of god do u serve?

  • Whats Normal

I think everyone just needs to shut up and leave it be. I’m sure you would all LOVE it if people just kept trying to dig into your business even years after it happened. Stop trying to read to far into everything. I’m on Rihanna’s side with this one.

  • TRUTH

    Pot, ah mean, hot head!!

  • kimber

You call this flipping out?You must not get out much.

  • kimber

You know I’ve been wanting to say this for a long time,So here goes. The white media gave very little press to Rihanna when she first came out.She was our little island princess that Jay-Z signed. The minute the big bad black guy beat her up it was news. The white media seems to have very little interest in black stars unless it’s negative.Shame on you!

  • dara

Rihanna you did a song with your attacker, beefed with his gf, in returned him and a few others called you a bunch of unflattering names publicly all in the last few weeks…..and the people want to know. * sticks mic in Rihanna face* Do tell.

What is there to talk about Rihanna’s music ? The drama she creates to promote her music overshadows her career. I can’t think of one question relating to Rihanna’s music. Wait yes I can ” What was it like working with the guy who put you in the hospital a while back ?

    • Trisha_B

Ask her how was it like working w/ Jay Z? How come she rarely have features on her album? How does she feel about the reviews of Battleship? Talk about your new movie your filming in New Orleans. How does it feel to have 11 number #1′s? How does she know what singles will make the #1? How does she find a good balance of work & downtown w/ friends & family? Is she gonna take a break from singing to do acting? Modeling? Pleasssseee! There are so many questions this interviewer could have asked her that didn’t involve Chris. Rihanna has a life outside of Chris & Chris wasn’t even on the album, he was on the remix.

Media loves beating a dead horse! For sometime she has made it very clear that she has moved on, and the interviewer just continued to fish for something negative. Reporters don’t have any tact anymore, I’m not a fan of her’s but I can see how the redundant questioning can get old. She is Rhianna pop singer……not Jill Scott or India Arie! Rhianna makes music just for entertainment, just like Nickie, I’m pretty sure she never been on a “Starship” so would that had been of topic if she was being interviewed?
There’s more current events going on in Rhianna’s media life……like her movie. Why not ask about that? Either way I could care less, let the woman live and ask the real questions her fans wanna hear or do your research. Otherwise I’m glad that she sticks up for herself, its not for us to judge her.

  • nisha136988

I think the reporter stepped out of pocket. I understand asking about the song but when the conversation went to the left she should have just stopped. As far as RiRi she’s human, I mean wouldn’t you get mad if someone keeps bring up your personal life when you’re talking about your music. That’s what’s wrong with people you should be a fan of her music and care less about her personal life. That’s her business celebrity or not, the interview should have been more professional.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. :-)
