Nicki, You’re Not a Slave to Wayne: Rapper Cancels Headlining Performance 1 Hour Before the Show

Well, well, well. Lil Wayne flexed a bit of his muscles this weekend. His artist, Nicki Minaj was set to headline Summer Jam, the annual Hip Hop festival sponsored by Hot 97.  But just an hour before she was set to take the stage, Hot 97′s DJ Peter Rosenberg had a…suggestion for Nicki Minaj’s lineup. He said that she shouldn’t perform the ”wack A$$ Starships” trackWe about that real hip-hop, not ‘Starships.’”

Rosenberg said this at 8pm. Nicki was supposed to perform at 9pm. But Wayne shut all of that down. He told his crew not to go on stage and then confirmed it for the rest of the world by tweeting, “Young Money ain’t doing summer jam.”

So let it be written, so let it be done. We know Nicki had to be disappointed. Headlining Summer Jam is a huge look.

She tweeted:

Wow. U niggaz just fucked up history. But the President has spoken. #YMCMB

I go above and beyond for my fans. But won’t ever go against wayne’s word. What he says, goes.

Wow is right Nicki. Though Rosenberg probably shouldn’t have said what he did an hour before Nicki was set to take the stage, Nicki definitely should have still performed. She could have easily opened her set with a diss to Rosenberg. It would have had the crowd going wild and she still would have gotten to do her thing. This move just reeks of unprofessionalism. And I know Wayne is Nicki’s boss and helped put her on but should he continue to hold the reigns over her business decisions? I mean, the man seems to be under the appearance of some substance or another at all times. And with his recent tantrum over the OKC issue, it’s clear that Wayne is going through something right now. True, Rosenberg shouldn’t have said what he did…no matter how true it was…but letting a man with a questionable mental state make these type of decisions is not a good look for Nicki’s fans or her brand.

On a brighter note, Nicki Minaj was scheduled to bring out Lauryn Hill and Nas to perform their hit, “If I Ruled the World.” Though Nicki wasn’t there to introduce them, Lauryn and Nas still hit the stage. So the night wasn’t a complete loss.

**Update** If some of you were waiting for Rosenberg to issue some type of apology for his statements, you may have to hold your breath a bit longer. This is what the DJ had to say earlier this morning.

I never liked lil wayne, definitely don’t know. He thinks people should kiss feet and throw roses on the ground he walks on. First the Oklahoma city game and now this.

People are forgetting the fact that Wayne is her boss. Everybody on here right now will do whatever their boss tells them to so why is Nicki any different. I don’t see why she should perform if the people paying her to perform was disrespecting her.

She didn’t beg to perform, they came to her so the DJ was out of line. All they did was show other people that if you hire YMCMB you have to come correct.

If it was Beyonce that refused to perform because the DJ dissed her everybody would have had her back so just chill and stop complaining about something that already happened and can’t be changed.
