Bet You Didn’t Know: Secrets Behind the Making of “Poetic Justice”

How did Janet become Justice?

The opinion of Janet’s acting skills is completely subjective. While some feel her portrayal was noticeably weaker than Tupac’s, others thought her character’s plight and her interpretation of it was believable. Whether you loved or hated her acting, Janet, who was the wealthiest woman in show business at the time, had to do some serious work to prepare; because, let’s face it, nobody really saw Janet as just another “around the way girl.”

Entertainment Weekly reported that Singleton made Jackson gain 10 pounds, watch Sophia Loren in Two Women and apprentice in a South Central hair salon for a day. Singleton also introduced Janet to a few of his homegirls from his old neighborhood. A couple of the girls hit it off with Janet and ended up spending two months in her California home. Two women from the group even went on to become background dancers for Janet’s tour.

“If I’m really gonna make love to Janet, I’ll take four.” Sorry had to ROTFL at that one.

  • LoveandHappiness

Tupac, we need you in the rap game today! I keep your Machiavelli CD on heavy rotation. I miss you love!

While I applaud John Singleton for his success as a director/screenwriter I really did not care for the movie….I am a huge Janet Jackson fan however her acting did not hold my interest at all….It was very stale…..The best part of the movie was Tupac.

Janet wanted to be friends with tupac but he wanted more. PAC fell in love with Janet he said and also the director John singleton said in an interview that PAC told him her was in love with Janet. Janet was secretly married to Rene and although PAC didnt know they were marrie he damn sure knew he was her man but he didn’t care and still tried to push up on Janet. Watch PAC on arseno hall in 93 were he mentions kissing Janet and trying to kiss her more passionately because Rene was there. If you were married would your husband allow tupac to be calling you and trying to get with you? I think not.

    • Love_Sexy

Now that information I did not know about but I am not suprise he had a thing for her.

    • Chanda

I remember that interview. He at least acknowledged Rene as Janet’s “boyfriend”.

The person who wrote this blog is the ignorant one. First off this movie was filmed in 92 only a few years after HIV/AIDS was discovered and many people did not no much about how the virus got spread.Just because today we know more about how Poole contact it back then it was relatively unknown. And with Esezy E and Magic Johnson Janet or her people were just being safe.

Also you say Janet didn’t like tupac shows some more ingnorance from your part. Janet wanted to be friends with

    • Miss Anonymous

Thank you. 1992 was 20 years ago, alot of people were ignorant of how AIDS was spread back then. People even thought that you could catch it by touching or sitting in the same seat. Are we gonna compare how cell phones look back in the 90s compared to today next?

  • Lese

Ummm about Janet being ignorant about AIDS and how its transmitted is completely false and ignorant for the writer to say. The reason why she or her people requested an AIDS test be done is because there was supposed to be a sex scene between the two. So when Tupac refused, they didn’t do it. Simple as that. Janet has had a few close people in her life die from AIDS. That’s the many reason why she recorded the song “Together Again”. So please get your facts straight before posting what you THINK is right.

  • DON’T ASSUME

How do you know Janet requested that? What of her people in her camp asked…I don’t know like her ex-husband Rene. He was in the film and he could’ve felt threatened by Pac. All speculative I know, but even Pac said her “people”. You don’t want Ass-U-Me and make as though it’s fact when you don’t really know.

    • vwells1

Which is why in the heading I said Janet…or her people.

    • Love_Sexy

I agree with you 100%….People really don’t know who requested the test.

  • AM

That video was funny you got to love Pac!

  • helado31

So the author of the article hated Janet Jackson for wanting to protect herself? Um, she wasn’t ignorant. She was being a protector of her body. Regardless of AIDS or whatever, please try not to encourage women out there that they should just go around kissing and sleeping with whomever. Reckless journalism.

    • Ona2684

I don’t think the author was deaminizing JJ for requesting the test but it does show ignorance. You can’t catch AIDS from a kiss. Would you require everyone who’s hand you shake to take an AIDS test? It was an unnecessary request and if I were Pac I would have been very insulted.

      • Lese

Janet Jackson or her people requested an AIDS test to be taken because there was supposed to be a sex scene between the two. They forgot to share that part, but once he refused, there was no sex scene, simple as that.
Janet knows all too well about the AIDS epidemic, she has lost friends due to this disease and wrote her song “Together Again” for the ones she lost.

    • vwells1

You took a gigantic leap there. Where does it say I hated Janet? Or wanted other women to sleep with randoms? : /

  • Smacks_hoes

Hated this movie… It sucked and the plot….oh yea the movie had no plot. Ugh just terrible

  • Trisha_B
