Get Under Your Skin: How To Renew & Maintain Your Skin

May 27th, 2012 - By Gabrielle Franco

1. Cleanse

Duh! Common sense, right? You would-or maybe you wouldn’t-be surprised at how many people “cleanse” with water because cleansers are “to harsh for their sensitive skin.” We were all born with different skin types and have to modify our skincare routine accordingly.

While those who tend to have dry or normal skin, use a creamy wash, people with oily or combination skin should use a gel based wash. Either way, make sure your cleanser is a soap-less cleanser. Soap should not be used from the neck up.  If washing your face twice a day is too much for you, cleanse at night to remove dirt that may have settled into your face throughout the day.  Toners are sometimes used to remove excess dirt, oil or makeup. This is optional if you feel that you need something to supplement your cleanser.

i have no problem using soap. I use dr. bronner’s castile soap which cleared me of cystic acne (bacterial infection not hormonal) and I continue to use it to keep acne at bay. I know it’s extremely basic ph so I rub raw honey on my face afterward to balance ph….I used to get really dry skin after using it but couldn’t find another replacement for a face wash because my skin is dry AND breaks out easily. I don’t have the problem anymore now that I just use raw honey after. I’d use it alone but it doesn’t remove makeup well and I can’t use oils to wipe makeup off because they clog up my skin no matter what…

also wanted to add that i rub the honey on semi dry skin and rinse it off…
