Who’s Going To Be The One To Tell Chelsea Her Jokes On Black Women Just Aren’t Funny?

There’s something about Chelsea Handler that I find partially annoying but for the most part just not funny. In stark contrast for her affinity for black men, particularly rappers, she has a special place in her heart for trying to keep the stereotypical black girl meme going and it’s really not a good look.

The other night she went on a tirade about wanting to find a new “black lady friend” and the commentary went something like this:

“As I mentioned yesterday, Tracy Lately is looking for some new friends, not that I don’t like the ones I have, I’m just looking for better ones. In particular, I am looking for a new Black lady friend.  I don’t want to make it a racial thing, bu the last Black girlfriend I had robbed me. I tried to be friends with Lonnie Love but during a recent slumber party, she ate my chaise lounge. My bad, I should have never purchased a chaise lounge made out of waffles. I recently found a new candidate on the new VH1 dating series, Tough Love New Orleans.”

This is when she cuts to the video clip of her new-found black BFF and continues with:

“This whole thing has got me wondering, why in predominately African-American films is there never a sassy White friend? Tyler Perry, last time I checked, I am White and I am sassy.  Here is my audition: Leave him girlfriend. That man ain’t no good for you b***h. [Insert neck roll and finger snaps.]

I’m pretty sure there was a laugh reel or something going because it just wasn’t that funny. I wasn’t particularly offended, I just felt like I’d seen that before and didn’t really need to see it again because it wasn’t so funny the first time. On Womanist Musings though, Renee Martin didn’t let her off the hook so easily. She wrote:

“I am sick to death of these negative characteristics being treated as the monolithic representative standard of Black womanhood.  I am sick to death of White women perpetuating them as truth, while never acknowledging that these very same tropes benefit them.  It’s all ya ya sisterhood of the traveling pantsuits when they need something, and remember your place when they don’t. Mostly though, I am sick to death of comedians using comedy to justify unleashing bigoted screeds for laughs. If you have to depend upon perpetuating an ism to be perceived as funny, you are not a comedian, you’re a bigot.”

All I have to say about the ghetto black girl axe she continues to grind it, don’t you have better things to do, like visit 50 Cent in the hospital? Oh, and please don’t give Tyler Perry any ideas. The last thing we need is a “Madea Goes to Chelsea Lately.”

Check out the clip of her ghetto black girl routine and tell us what you think. How do you feel about Chelsea Handler?

There are moments when I try to blow her off as a comedian but the strikes a chord that irritates me to no end. Example: I listened to her interview tonight with Adam Levine and he started reading a guestbook. But as soon as he said “to” was spelled “2,” she said a black person must’ve done that as if the entire white population would never write in shorthand. These black stereotypes she keeps throwing out on her show blow me away and everyone just KEEPS acting like it’s okay who comes on her show. I’m not much of a fan of Nicki Minaj, but I was elated when Nicki checked her IMMEDIATELY. Same goes for Tiny bringing the magazines back that were sent to T.I. But she kinda played Tiny on the show. However, Chelsea went back to T.I. and talked about how tough Tiny was so apparently her point came through loud and clear.

Tyler did go the Chelsea Lately, just not as Madea and boy was it awkward. It was kinda like (and he did finally state) he had never even seen the show and had no clue why it was a thing. Looks like its time to fire a publicist! LOL

is it a stereotype if you see at least 3 black women/week who act this way???  sorry, but we have to start making changes in ourselves.  while myself and friends do not act like that…take a ride into any hood usa and tell me that you don’t hear people speaking just like this.  i’d like to be mad at chelsea…but i’m mad at keisha, shaniqua, khadijah and all the other hood chicks who made this the representation of black women(i used those names intentionally).  by the same token…do we not generally make the white girl goofy and gullible when we represent them?  the white man sheisty and willing to sell his soul for possessions?  if you don’t like her comedy…stop upping her ratings by watching the show.  kinda sounds silly to have written a story about something you are voluntarily doing.

  • Brownbomer2

Yeah that was some racist sh*t, wow.

  • Playbaby4

Ugggg, I can’t stand her!  She’s not funny, just crass and trashy.  Hunh?  Ohhhhhhh, that’s trailer trash comedy?

  • Mystique

Who can Chelsea talk about?  She looks like an ugly man.

Chelsea’s comedy is based on stereotypes, some will find it funny, some will be offended by it. I personally don’t find her funny especially when she talks bad about Chuy who has a disability. Some black men like her because she talks about how well endowed they are, men in general like to take pride in that, so something positive for them.  I’m not offended by negative stereotypes about black women because I don’t fit into any of them, I’m just me, an individual. I also love when they expect me to  feed into the negative ones and I prove them wrong.  What I’m offended about is, when black women or black men actually confirm these negative stereotypes, and think it’s okay. Let’s be realistic here, stereotypes are based on observation, some truth to it, the problem is generalization. Everyone is guilty of generalization, and what will be the point of comedy without generalization. Black people in general have the most negative stereotypes, we are busy getting angry, not doing much action to prove them wrong or do opposite of that. It’s all about power. Whoever is in power has the least negative stereotypes and has the power to control everything. If someone says white people are trailer park, it will not resonate because you mostly see ones that are on top in high positions. It’s hard to say negative things about Jews, the main thing you think about is they are wealthy, they own big companies and are mostly bankers. You talk bad about Asians, then you remember, they are freaking smart and immediately think of technology/computer. But we black people haven’t made a name/brand for ourselves, we  made a name for ourselves in sports, entertainment  and other things but not BIG DEVELOPMENT  where majority fall into that category. We are getting there, and that’s where our focus should be. Change is action, not talking.

THIS   WHAT  HAPPEN  WHEN  FREE  SPEECH BEING  SAID. THE  FIRST  AMENDMENT…i  DON’T  LIKE  IT. SHE  HAVE  NO  CLASS. THAT’S  WHY  I  DON’T  WATCH  HER.HER MONOLOGUE IS  TOTALLY”OUT  OF  LINE.

  • Chanda

I watch her show all the time. Even though I don’t find all her jokes funny they don’t offend me either. Chelsea makes fun of everybody and anything. Don’t take it seriously or personally, I sure don’t.

  • Mellie

Um..I don’t find her offensive, I just find her un-funny. She’s not a comedienne. Joan Rivers is a Comic. Chris Rock is a comic. These are people that are witty and funny, even when they are being a little edgy. Chelsea just relies on shocking people and sort of pandering to the ultimate White liberal ideals. She wants to shout about her abortions from the hills? Okay. She wants to call Angelina Jolie a w***e when She (chelsea) was sleeping with the head of E! for years? okay. But none of that is comedy.
I think she’s more offensive to Black MEN for how she has them on her show and seriously turns EVERY SINGLE one of them into a little b***h. Never seen any of them bark at her the way 50 cent did to Oprah, or the way he called Ciara every kind of N-word and B-word on twitter. I guess they’re afraid of her?

Overall Black women don’t seem to be her target of hate, she just hates Christians. Anytime someone Jewish comes on she seems to identify with them, but makes fun of Christians (I doubt she would ever fix her face to address a muslim in a disrespectful way, so I won’t even mention that one). If you want to talk about racist comedians, NO ONE said more about Black women (Black women are ugly, Black women are prostitutes, etc) than Sarah Silverman. Even though she’s stanning so hard for Obama right now, some Black nanny of hers must of peed in her cheerios or something.

  • MzAzania

I saw this and found it quite annoying as well. I wasn’t offended either, but remember thinking, “I don’t know any black women that act like that…so what’s the joke?” *insert blank stare* I think the “laughter” was put in place to kill the uncomfortable silence, since no one else found it funny either!

  • Truth0312

I go back and forth with this chick.  I can tolerate her humor sometimes because she can be funny, but mostly, unless she’s interviewing someone I care about; I ignore her.  The racist bits do get stale and her endless sarcasm grates on my nerves something terrible.  Honestly, I think she gets so much attention because she says controversial stuff and gets away with it because she’s a White girl who’s not overweight and/or lesbian like the rest.  Yeah, that was somewhat sexist and racist for me to say, but I think it’s the truth.  *shrug*

  • Entyce986

Its obvious the woman is jealous of women of color (african american women in particular). Look at her! She was fooling around with a black man for crying out loud! Its obvious she would feel that way.

  • DoinMe

I’ve never liked her. I don’t understand why she’s even on TV.

  • D. Rose in the paint

If so many black women didnt live up to these stereotypes to keep them alive they would have no fodder….but look around you…black women actually behave this ridiculously..its like black women hate to have the mirror of truth held to their face…I only feel sorry for the ones who really dont fit the stereotype because they have been dragged down.

    • Entyce986

Black women aren’t the only women on the planet that behave negative. “People” in general regardless of ethnicity, gender, etc can behave in a rude crazy manner. So please find the nearest seat and park your behind in it. I have seen many white/black/asian/hispanic women hollering, cursing, yelling, gold diggin, etc. We are not responsible for someone else’s actions. Feel bad for yourself. Maybe you should turn that mirror towards yourself. I can think of a stereotype that you are portraying.

      • D. Rose in the paint

“So please find the nearest seat and park your behind in it.”

^^^^This is exactly what Im talking about….thanks for proving my point. You’re a stereotype even when typing!!  hahahahahahahah…the whole time Im reading it all I can see in my head is a hoodrat with one hand on her hip, moving that neck like yu all love to do…tellin me to “park my behind”!! hahaah

        Thank you….I rest my case

        • Entyce986

“Hoodrat” lol! Really?! Since you are over your computer and you can be anyone including a hoodrat yourself or streetrat, imma laughing and say tsk, tsk. You are so sad, bitter, and pathetic. You prove to everyone how you can’t cure ignorance! Don’t be so sensitive, lol!

          • Entyce986

            *laugh

        • Angelti23

I take a lot of offense to what you just said. I am black, educated & find no use in rolling my neck, snapping my fingers &I whopping & hollering to get my point across. I can articulate myself very well thank you. Trust me I am no hoodrat just like all white people aren’t trailer trash.

          • D. Rose in the paint

Maybe if you would have read the whole thread you wouldnt have missed this part:

”I only feel sorry for the ones who really dont fit the stereotype because they have been dragged down.”

            SMH!!! Reading is fundamental

            • Tanycha

Is that suppose to be a disclaimer?  Stereotypes are just that. It’s ignorant to judge a whole group or any one individual by them.  Get out.  Meet people.  See the beauty and diversity in Black women and all people for that matter.

            • Mystique

Honey, don’t worry about the black woman.  You need to be worrying about the “trailer trash” white friends of yours that black men are using like dish rags.

        • Tanycha

Like I said, people need to get out more… beyond the neighborhood.

        • Mystique

Whatever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! y’all are no better than else.  I work with white a woman and all she and her friends do is clown and raise hell on their men, party, get drunk, all up in the newspaper with D.U.I. charges and fighting.  You are just jealous because you can’t move your neck and roll it.  Another thing, your white A** is probably so square and flat you can’t park it anywhere.  You need to go do like Kim K and Ice T’s wife Coco and buy you a “butt” to sit on.

    • FromUR2UB

Why are you here?  I don’t understand why some of you hang out on this site?  Don’t your own accept you?  You demonstrate why so many whites are stereotypically thought to be hateful.

      • Mystique

She is on here because she is a bigot.

      • Lucky

Because she feels safe expressing her views behind her (or his) keyboard, that’s why.
