Sad But True: Tia and Pooch Are Out of ‘The Game’

The story that Melanie and Derwin would be no more on BET’s “The Game” is no longer just a rumor. Tia Mowry confirmed her exit last night on Twitter and her on-screen husband Pooch Hall is definitely leaving with her.

“Just wanted to let all my fans know that I will not be returning to The Game for season 6,” Tia tweeted. “It was an incredible run and I had lots of fun.”

The obvious question of why, along with how the heck is the show going to go on without the two main characters, hasn’t been answered yet, but it appears both actors have moved on to bigger, and perhaps better, things.

Pooch already a new gig as a series regular on Ray Donovan, a new Showtime pilot which was picked up. From most of your comments, HBO and Showtime are the route to go if you want to have a good role on TV so Pooch might be on the come up. As far as Tia, she just released a new book on motherhood, Oh Baby!, which hits stores today, and the second season of her and Tamera’s reality TV show on the Style Network will be coming back soon. I doubt she’s going to make a full career out of reality TV but at least the checks will still be rolling in.

Some reports have said the actors will be back to wrap up their story lines and TV Overmind says Pooch will still have a recurring role next season, much like Coby Bell’s Jason Pitts. I haven’t been watching the show consistently, but after last night’s episode it seemed Melanie might be moving to DC, so they could easily make her character disappear that way. We’ll have to see what goes down in the season finale June 5.

    This is what happens everytime BET gets a hold of something. They wave the “holding it down for our people flag” and proceed to de-value everything vaild about the product and embarrass us all. I cannot stand BET. That “network” is a truly pathetic commentary on the black community by celebrating everything that is wrong, backwards, tasteless and ignorant.

      I agree. I think this should be a wake up call to people. BET is in the business of dumbing us down. The Game was a good, light-hearted, classy and smart show. They had a huge following, the characters were developed, and the storylines were good. Why mess that up by adding a bunch of ignorance and ratchetness? I was done when Mel wanted to start turning tricks and having threesomes and Tasha Mack was tweakin for her weed. 

      And what’s sad about this is that The Game is a product of Kelsey Grammar, a white guy who kept it classy. But the minute low-rent BET with black executives get it, they turn it into  modern day Blaxploitation sitcom.

    they took something good n messed it up the only way they know how.

    The issues centered around Tashia and Malik are getting old and very predictable.  We know that Malik is dealing with his addiction and that Tashia has issues keeping a man.  How long are we going to go around that tree?  Melanie and Derwin were the only two constantly changing the dynamic of their relationship.  I will have to say that I am interested in this Jason and Chardonnay plot twist.  Its cute and intersting but for the most part Melanie and Derwin make the show.

    The Game is as good as over now, if the two main characters are leaving the show. This is like Martin leaving the Martin TV Show, or Will Smith deciding to leave the Fresh Prince. The show’s been on too long and developed a fan following so introducing new main cast members to replace the actual stars of the show wouldn’t work and the fans wouldn’t fall for it. This season SHOULD BE the last season. What other stories do they have to tell anyways?

    It was something different about their personalities of the characters they played this season…I felt they weren’t happy.  I hope the two find much success and I don’t think the game will be the same..as for Brandy; she brings a little flavor to the show with Jason.  Maybe their roles will make up for the absent of the two that is leaving….farewell to the both..they will be missed by me!

    I lost intrest the second episode of this season, the storyline just wasn’t appealing! Now that they are loosing the two main characters this show will be cancelled very soon, BET ruined da show

    I think everyone can agree that ‘The Game’ definitely wasn’t the same on BET as it was on the CW (and its a change for the worse), but losing the 2 main characters is a major loss. Next season will probably be the last. It’s a shame too, b/c I LOVED the show on CW

    I am just extremely upset, as a FAN from the Pilot episode on Girlfriends. How is this ever going to work since the main premise of the show was the relationship between Melanie and Derwin? Today is a sad day for Game fans

    I don’t think the show has been the same since leaving the CW network, so honestly I am not really as upset as I would be if it were still as good as it used to be. However these 2 are main characters and I don’t see how the show will exist without them but we shall see. I love them both as real ppl so I am happy for their new success on other endeavors, and wish them the best. I will follow their careers for as long as I can. Med School, Derwin “Ding Dong” Davis, Tasha Mack, Jason Pitts, Kelly Pitts and Malik El Debarge Wright will always be my favorite tv characters. :-)

    I haven’t been watching as faithfully but I am disheartened by the news. The focus of the show from the beginning was of Melanie and Derwin. I have noticed that they were being put on the back burner this season and were virtually isolated from the rest of the cast. There was such a push for the show to come back for them specifically. But I do admit the show lost its luster when we learned that Melanie wasn’t practicing medicine. I wish them luck but I am still sad to see them go.

    I love these two as the main characters of the show. Tasha Mack’s character is just confusing to me. I am so tired of the “Bitter Black Woman” she has everything and still no class, in the name of keeping it real.  I do not understand why real has to equal ignorant. I don’t know if I can keep watching.

    I don’t know. It appears the show was already skating on thin ice since  BET (*cough, cough* destroyed it) took over, so I really don’t see it hanging on much longer.

    I agree with JUSTME that Melanie and Derwin make the show.  There seems to be a lot of focus on Tasha Mack, maybe there will be a spin-off show.  She is quite a character!

    I do see the game trying to focus more on the other characters lately, but Im not sure how that’s going to fair since Darwin and Melanie are the show’s two main characters. I guess only time will tell on this one…and I can see last night episode leading to both of them leaving the show, due to Darwin asking Mel about DC…
