Sad But True: Tia and Pooch Are Out of ‘The Game’

The story that Melanie and Derwin would be no more on BET’s “The Game” is no longer just a rumor. Tia Mowry confirmed her exit last night on Twitter and her on-screen husband Pooch Hall is definitely leaving with her.

“Just wanted to let all my fans know that I will not be returning to The Game for season 6,” Tia tweeted. “It was an incredible run and I had lots of fun.”

The obvious question of why, along with how the heck is the show going to go on without the two main characters, hasn’t been answered yet, but it appears both actors have moved on to bigger, and perhaps better, things.

Pooch already a new gig as a series regular on Ray Donovan, a new Showtime pilot which was picked up. From most of your comments, HBO and Showtime are the route to go if you want to have a good role on TV so Pooch might be on the come up. As far as Tia, she just released a new book on motherhood, Oh Baby!, which hits stores today, and the second season of her and Tamera’s reality TV show on the Style Network will be coming back soon. I doubt she’s going to make a full career out of reality TV but at least the checks will still be rolling in.

Some reports have said the actors will be back to wrap up their story lines and TV Overmind says Pooch will still have a recurring role next season, much like Coby Bell’s Jason Pitts. I haven’t been watching the show consistently, but after last night’s episode it seemed Melanie might be moving to DC, so they could easily make her character disappear that way. We’ll have to see what goes down in the season finale June 5.

    this is the worst thing that they could do, Pooch and Melaine made the show. I am quite sure that the show will lose viewers because they have lost me and my family.

    Tia & Pooch should be happy; that show sucks! They have ruined the show and it is not interesting at all or entertaining. They can do better.  Let Brandy stay on the silly show.

    after it left CW-i was done. its boring as hell on BET-just like the rest of their shows. (excpet college hill-which they should bring back,lol)

      Bring back BALDWIN Hills! Some young Black people with class. Melanie’s character kept getting too vulgar for me. I didn’t even watch it on BET

    I am very disappointed in the amount of comments suggesting that BET ruined the show. Let’s not forget that if BET did not pick up the show after CW dropped it like a hot potato we would not have gotten season 4 (one of the greatest seasons by the way) or 5. Nor would we be having this debate. Moreover the show changed networks not writers. If anything I would say that BET allowed for more creative freedom that cw was not providing period. Black people we need to stop spitting on our products! Let’s support us! ….now to answer the question: yes I think the show will continue to be strong they have great writers! If season 5 went on without kelly, girlfriends went on without tony and (drum roll please) a different world went on without denise then the game couldd go on without merwin. Don’t get me wrong I LOVE merwin (have them as one of my profile pics on fb and all lol) I just don’t think the show will end if they leave, the writers are too amazing for that to happen.

      I actually gave The Game a season and a half after it moved to BET before I gave up on it. But the writing is horrible. It’s hard to believe them when they say it’s the same writers. It doesn’t even feel good to watch Tasha sleep with a prostitute or Malik be coerced into sex. It’s not a fun show anymore.

      I started not to feel for the characters anymore because I didn’t like them. … It’s time for them to move on.

    It was historical the way fans rallied around and resurrected The Game on BET. Never has this occurred for a black show. So, after all of that BET loses its’ grip on the show. The characters are different. Some have changed and some have gotten worse.  It was so disappointing that Melanie did not continue her career as a doctor. Tasha Mack always kept it real but at the same time she was beautiful, intelligent, and aggressive as a business woman. Now, she is having sex with escorts – hovering around her grown son – not willing to cut the cord. There were so many opportunities for this show to continue its’ greatness. Losing Kelly Pitts was a huge loss for The Game – so much of the chemistry between Tasha, Kelly, and Melanie was gone. Unless some extraordinary characters are brought in – the show will have its final season next year. It cannot survive without Derwin and Melanie. This season wasn’t great but I watched every episode to support The Game.

    Hell No ….Melanie needs to go she makes me sick but Pooch will be missed. As long Tasha Maq and her son is still on I will be watching for sure

    BET should have just left it alone.  I was glad when they brought it back, but they brought it back without the magic.   The story lines and characters have gotten so ridiculous it’s no longer entertaining.   Without Pooch & Tia, they might as well stick a fork in it.

    It’ll be a wrap for me after the season finale.  BET should’ve left well enough alone.  The hospital wedding would’ve been a nice way to end, as opposed to giving the fans 2 seasons of crap.  The premise of the show was ‘medical school student moves to San Diego with her NFL rookie boyfriend.’  Watching The Game without Derwin and Melanie is POINTLESS….

    Tasha Mack character needs a serious makeover!!!! they got her doing escort and dating Pookie from around the way??? she’s always spending money, but does she even have a job now? Its not funny anymore, just alot of drama with depression. BTW Jason Pitts is hilarious!!!! Wonder if kelsey grammer still writing for that show, b/c something it definitely missing from this season and the last one

    i hate to see them go……….the show is already going down hill………losing these two will only accelerate the trip down hill…..I definitely won’t watch after they’re gone….

    Their characters anchor the show.  They would have to come up with an entirely new rookie and girlfriend/wife to start that cycle completely over.

    I feel it is best for them to distance themselves from this show at this point..for the health of their careers…I was a religious viewer of this show. Had each episode on DVD watched them multiple times…but as the series returned, it became very ‘washed out’ and forced.When the fans brought them back..i was primed for the premier, i watched two episode after that and never did again. The elements that made the show great was gone, the story lines seemed forced..and the cast broke apart..starting with ‘kelly pitts’…I see everyone on to geat things except ‘Tash Mac’..hope she has something big in the works as well!
