How To Get Stretched, Textured Hair Without Heat

May 15th, 2012 - By Rich

Roller Sets

You can still do roller sets with no heat! No, it may not be as perfect as it is sitting under the dryer for hours…but you can let it air dry. Take a Sunday afternoon and use a setting lotion. Add flexirods to each section (don’t take too much hair) and let them completely dry and voila! Perfect ringlets! They can last a week or two also.

Dry Twists
You can stretch out your hair with dry twists and braid-outs. If you want your hair stretched without using heat, this is a great way to go. When your hair is dry, use a moisturizing lotion to put some moisture in your hair and braid or twist. The next morning, take them out and you have defined, stretched hair!

Banding
Banding includes using multiple bands and taking chunks of your hair and putting several bands down each section about 2 inches apart. When your hair is dry, you have stretched textured hair!

Bantu Knots

Bantu Knots includes taking hair in sections and twirling and twirling until it starts to coil around itself. You coil it into a circle, and either tuck the ends in, or secure with a bobby pin. When you unravel, you have big loose stretched waves. You can redo this process in the evening. Try the Optimum Salon Collection Whipped Oil Moisturizer to moisturize and prep strands. This light weight product provides breakage protection; ceramides and coconut oil strengthen and moisturize the hair fiber.

You can enjoy stretched styles without compromising the health of your hair. No need to blast all of that heat on your hair! A little heat is okay. Remember- moderation is key!

Can you go a week without putting heat on your hair?

Ladies get yourselves some curl formers. The curls are much looser than with roller sets and gives you a blowout kind of look. You can wear the curls from the curl formers for a day or two and then use that stretched hair for a dry twist/braid out. I say look up Naptural85 on youtube since she does tons of styles after stretching with curl formers.

curl formers don’t require any heat at all like roller sets and take much less time to dry than bantu knots.**

I agree I use curlformers all the time (im relaxed now). When I was natural you couldnt keep me away from curlformers.

I’m texlaxed so now I can stretch my hair and keep it that way with out heat. Another good one (my hair is too short still) is to bun it damp or wet until it dries.
