Black and Latino students may be getting less critical, but helpful, feedback from teachers than their white counterparts, a new educational study indicates.

“The social implications of these results are important; many minority students might not be getting input from instructors thatstimulates intellectual growth and fosters achievement,” study researcher Kent Harber, a Rutgers-Newark psychology professor, said in a press release.

This positive bias in feedback to minority students may be contributing to the achievement gap between white and minority students, a stubborn national problem, Harber said.

The study “tested” 113 white middle-school and high-school teachers in two public school districts, one middle class and white, and the other working class and racially mixed. Both are located in the New York/New Jersey/Connecticut tri-state area.

Minority children in my country refers to Caucasian ‘white’  or Chinese/East Asian children

Small sample size and limited demographic. I’d like to see more research before drawing any true conclusions.

Growing up in predominately white school districts, I can attest to this. When I did good the white teachers did not say much. When my grades began to slip, the teachers did not say didley squat to me or my Mother. My Mother was only called in when I became a class disruption.

I’m sorry but my children will not be going to predominately white school

same old tired story!! we are a minority with highest rate of crime, highest rate of disease whatever it is, teenage births, the highest, and if it’s negative we carry the full load, like no other group!! So what else is new?!

Side note: By FAR, the majority of people in the world are brown, with brown eyes and dark brown hair. So…who’s the minority, again? Better yet, maybe labeling students as “minorities” is contributing to the problem. IJS

what else is new, this has always happens in these public schools, whites get better everything than  blacks , then they want to come up with studies showing how less smart blacks are than whites.
