Have (almost) the same priorities
Would you rather live in a small, low rent home so that you have extra money to travel, dine out and overall indulge? Or, is having a large house that you own the greatest joy for you, even if other indulgences have to be cut out to fund it? Would you rather put money into an expensive and prestigious high school for your kid to amp up their college application? Or, do you think that money is better spent on other activities like music lessons? Second language lessons? Talk to your partner about your beliefs on big matters like these, before they come up.
