Lake Atitlan, Guatemala
Unlike most lakes, Lake Atitlan is one that doesn’t flow into the sea. The lake has been named as the deepest lake in Central America and the depth of its beauty is immeasurable. The lake itself has one of the most picture-perfect views around, a sight you won’t see very often. In fact, Lake Atitlan is surrounded by three volcanoes on its southern portion which creates a dramatic landscape that can only be seen in Guatemala. While at the lake, be sure to pick up a cup or two of coffee since the lake’s basin is known for being an important place for coffee growth. Coined as “the most beautiful lake in the world” by German explorer Alexander von Humbolt, Lake Atitlan is definitely a great spot to vacation near.
