Martin Lawrence and his wife Shamicka Gibbs never flaunted their relationship like other Hollywood couples, but that didn’t stop the low key couple from going the way of many a Hollywood union. People has reported that the longtime lovers have decided to call it quits. The couple had been together for 13 years and had two daughters together before they decided to tie the knot in 2010.

Lawrence was previously married to Patricia Southall and had one daughter with her. His ex-wife went on to marry Dallas Cowboy Emmitt Smith. Lawrence was also in a long term relationship with Saved By The Bell actress Lark Voorhies.

Lawrence was reportedly set to make his return to television, having shot a pilot for CBS recently.

you know we living in the last days when we exhault shacking up, and put
down marriage. the devil has so many of us deceived. a marriage isn’t
going to be good unless both involved work at making it that way. that
takes time. i guess the reason people do well unmarried is because they
know at any time, they can walk without any repercussions, except maybe
paying child support for the children born into that lifestyle.

I hope they work it out.

Dang, 13 years together and 2 kids before marriage, maybe they shouldn’t have gotten married in the first place.

Some people like (Martin Lawrence) need to just STAY AWAY FROM EVER GETTING MARRY! Apparently, marriage is not for you bro!…….ijs

Maybe getting married ruined their relationship…

It wasn’t getting married that killed it, its the fact that it took 13 years and 2 daughters and probably years of NAGGING for him to marry her. He prob didn’t want that in the first place. LADIES take note, a man will stay around and have kids with you but that doesnt mean he sees you as his life partner, men are LAZY when it comes to starting something new, You have to be the one who leaves if shyt look stale. His behavior was probably all “single-like” and she pushed for the ring then started requiring him to come home at night, and other family-like behaviors (spend time together, plan together, vacations etc). the TRUTH IS a man will start acting like your husband before he even propose to you. When I was young, I pressured a wack boyfriend to marry me , he taught me a valuable lesson, he said ” I am not ready to get married, and if we marry you’ll be so miserable, I will not come home at night”. I was 23 and since then I learned my lesson, don’t pressure no man into marriage, just watch him, if thats not what he wants bounce.

I agree 100%….Sometimes we fail to clearly read the writing on the wall as well as notice red flags.

You stupid!!! Were you there??? Are you in constant survelience??? What gives you so much insight… Oh yeah thats right; Im guessing it happened to you??? Just a guess not a bunch of generalized statements… I dont know you so I have to guess… And you was ONLY 23 pressuring a man to marry you??? What the hell was your problem… How old are you now.. Do you have your life together and better able to handle a man that loves you??/ Well I guess I will never know cause your not a celebrity… And why should I care……

That’s awlful! That’s life. I am not sure to get married anymore. Martin, stick with your comedy. Hopefully, you will move on.

I sure hate to see another beautiful black couple call it quits.

  • Kathicks01

So they were together happily “unmarried” for 13 years then finnaly marry and it lasts only 2 yrs?  They say once you’ve been together for many years unmarried you should stay that way.  Something weird happens to couples that wait too long to get married.  Look at Oprah & Stedman, and Goldie Hawn & Kurt Russell…each couple have been together happily “unmarried” for more than 20 years…..interesting.

It really saddens me to hear black women that have given up on marriage.  I know quite a few african american marriages (including my parents) that are loving and going strong.  A happy marriage was not a myth back then and it certainly isn’t a myth now.

looking forward to a whole new comedy routine based on this!!
