Spring has sprung and that means some things that were hiding under those bulky sweaters and heavy coats during the winter are sprouting too. It’s not just June that’s busting out all over. Side fat spillage, a.k.a. muffin tops, are a continued source of frustration for women of all shapes and sizes. After all, this isn’t just an issue of too much fat; muffin tops can also be a result of not enough shirt to cover the body. Of course, for some of us, the lack of coverage is no accident. And hey, if you want to let it all hang out, then don’t let us slow your roll.  Although it should be pointed out that there’s a time and place for flashing skin and that skin should be toned please.

However it’s the untoned and untamed skin we’re talking about here. Sure you’re planning to work out and get rid of that side spillage – good luck with that. But let’s be honest, there are quite a few of you who will turn the calendar onto August and will still be talking about your plans to do something about those side rolls.

Meanwhile there’s the reality of the here and now. The weather is warming up and those spring and summer fashions are calling your name. So what can you do? Here are some solutions…

Side fat spillage, a.k.a. muffin tops, please buy the clothes in your size as Peachesthewritier mentioned. Just becuase they make it in your size does not mean you should/want/need to wear it.

Love the article…all tru points and by the way…Karyn Collins..is that you….?? Seton class of 1981???

  • RedButterfly81

What about mid-rise jeans? Plus I’ve seen some women who wear pants that’s so tight, they walk like they’re on stilts. I mean, that’s why stores have fitting rooms for a reason. It’s best to wear clothes in your size, period.

    • Vee

RedButtlfy I concur I love mid-rise jeans/pants..they are so flattering and does not show butt crack or your underwear. I always thought butt cracks and revealing underwear were so cheap looking not a great look.

      • RedButterfly81

Um…..I was saying they could have added mid-rise jeans on the list to prevent muffin tops, I even wear those everyday now and burned my low-rise ones when I got pregnant.

  • Ms. Spring

And some women need to cover u their buttocks and not wear low rise jeans.

    • Ananda

For REAL!!! If I can see your crack whe you bend down, sit down and or raise your arms: YOU NEED A BIGGER SIZE!   I saw a girl poured into some jeans the other night. It was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much information for me.

Buy pants that fit!!! It’s that simple.

A muffin top can happen to anyone regardless of how slim or heavy you are.  If a size six woman tries to wear size four jeans, her waist is going to spill over the waistband.  In response to the person who commented that she was surprised that “going to the gym” wasn’t listed, I do believe that is a given.  However, in the meantime until the weight is lost, a woman has to wear clothes.  The “secret” to preventing muffin-top and gapping blouses is to wear clothes that fit well.  If you have to go up a size, just give in.  I am short and fairly petite but have a pretty large chest (think Pamela Anderson or Dolly Parton).  Even the smallest woman cannot fit that large of a chest in a small or medium shirt.  Even Extra Larges are sometimes too small.  I have used double-sided tape and safety pins quite often to prevent the gaps in my button-up blouses.

Going to the gym is not listed?!?!?Hmmmmm,,,,

    • A.J.

      I think that’s a given.

      • Vee

It’s definitely a given but getting the right body means eating clean and that is 80% of work and being active is 20%.

    • Vee

And having the proper diet. Work out all you want but if you are eating processed junk food you are still going to have a muffin-top LOL.

This is true! I have been a gym rat for years and only saw weight loss when I cut back the calories.

Wel,l wearing the right size in clothing and/or keeping the weight down by eating right and exercising is important. But, if you need a little toning ( i was slim but always had a little front muffin-top action over my pants) try hula hooping with a weighted hoop. It does wonders!

Know your body type and dress accordingly. If you plan on losing weight, buy your clothes after the goal has been reached, not before. Don’t try to squeeze into something just because that appears to be the trend. Some of the heavier women in Hollywood are considered the better dressed because they know how to shop for their body composition.
