I am going to do something that most people in my position don’t do often – tell you my age. I am 39 years old. I am at an age where I realize that life isn’t always fair and that unlike fairy tales, life doesn’t always have a happy ending.

Nearly two years ago, I lost a close girlfriend to cancer. Diagnosed with stage 4 cancer at 32 years old, I remember thinking this wasn’t part of the plan. We were too young to worry about getting sick. In fact, we were supposed to be invincible.

    very well said. i hate to assume things but i believe this site attracts a certain type of woman and i can tell by many of the comments that these women are smart and progressive. we need to make sure that come this november we leave no doubt about what we expect for our healthcare. NONE of the republicans (that I’ve heard) give a damn abt womens health rights!
    An older coworker of mine hadn’t had a pap smear in 19 yrs when she got sick it was too late the cervical cancer had spread to her lymph nodes she died less than 2 mos later and to think this could have been prevented if she could have been able to afford a simple pap smear.
