Trina Braxton had a rough second season on “Braxton Family Values.” She found out her husband Gabe had been e-cheating on her, she revealed that she’d orally pleased another man, and then Gabe declared himself a sex addict—all while Towanna and her husband were living with them. Not much has been heard from Trina since the season wrapped but 365voice recently had a chat with the Braxton sister to see just how her life has been affected professionally, personally, and romantically. Here’s what she said:

How being on the show changed her life

“As far as family is concerned doing Braxton Family Values has made us realize that we had issues (LOL) that were unspoken or swept under the rug and we were really forced to deal with them. Once we realized we had those issues we were able to have closure with them. On a second note I go to the store and I’ll have people like ‘Oh my gosh is that you Trina? Can we take a picture?’ and I’ll smile from ear to ear and I’m always like OMG yes even if I’m having like a bad hair day. Just don’t talk about me real bad if it’s a bad hair day LOL!”

The status of her relationship with Gabe

“You know a lot of people it seems like have gone through the same situation or they’ve been through something very similar in their relationship and their just kind of like what do you do? How do you do this? And what do you think I should do? The first thing I say is I don’t know because you never know what you’ll do unless you go through something yourself. I have learned to keep my mouth shut with that. As far as the status of Gabe and I, I have filed for divorce however we are being very adult about it. We are talking, we are still raising the children together and we are still praying about his sex addiction therapy that he’s going to a counselor for as well. We’re doing a lot of praying and a lot of keeping outside influences away from our decision making. I think that’s one of the biggest mistakes we’ve made through the seasons of Braxton Family Values.”

What kind of man she’s looking for now

“Well the ink isn’t dry yet LOL so right now I’m concentrating on my career and of course my children. However when I do look for a man he has to be a God fearing man but also has to have balance with it. Please don’t hit me upside the head with a Bible and try to beat me to submission cause that’s not hot. I still like to enjoy myself and enjoy my life and have a nice drink or go out. I still like to curse, I like to say Isht sometimes (LOL). I also want someone who will appreciate the fact that I have baggage, I have 2 children and we come together. We’re a package deal so if you can’t deal with that then there is no need in even talking to me.”

What’s going on with her career

“I just released my first single ‘Party Or Go Home’ it’s a very retro, pop dance single. It’s very bubbly and it shows my personality as Trina. This is the first project I’ve ever done recording by myself without my sisters. It allowed me to express myself the way I wanted to do music. As soon as you hear it you want to just get up and dance and enjoy yourself.”

On who’s her favorite sister

“I don’t have a favorite sister however we go through seasons of closeness. When Towanda was Toni’s personal assistant they were like peas in a pod, inseparable and now that Towanda is back in Atlanta here with me Towanda and I are very close.  Now that Toni and Tamar are in California together Toni and Tamar are very close. And Traci’s in Maryland but my brothers in Maryland along with her so my brother and Traci are very close right now. Even though we all call each other everyday like I said we have periods of closeness depending on what’s going on in our lives. So right now Towanda’s my closest sister.”

365 Voice also asked Trina whether Toni really won’t return for season 3 of BFV, and though she said she couldn’t confirm either way she wouldn’t be surprised if Toni didn’t come back, saying, “I think she’d rather just go ahead and be Toni the songstress as opposed to Toni the reality TV star.”

What do you think about Trina’s interview? Is divorce a good move for her and Gabe?

I’m always curious about the “God fearing” statement. Why should you fear God if you love and trust him?? Sounds like a domestic violence kind of thing to me.

A God fearing man is not someone that is scared but someone that respects, lives, honors and love’s God.

I hope they don’t get a divorce, they tried counseling now try God and see what he has in store for them.  Seeing pass all what was displayed I still saw the love between them.  You have to have a spiritually eye to see that.

Understand what you’re saying but it’s not biblical. God can do anything and can change anyone but He doesn’t always uphold sinful things and sinful relationships. There are times when parting IS His will. I’m sure you will disagree so I have supporting facts. What happened with Samson and Delilah (married couple)…did God restore that marriage after Delilah betrayed Sampson? NO! Sampson went on to become captured and imprisoned and Delilah and he never rekindled. What happened with Lot and his wife (married couple)…did the wife turn back into a living human being at any point after God turned her into a pillar of salt for looking back? NO! Lot had to continue on his way, leaving his hometown, even after his disobedient wife was just left there as a salt statue. They never rekindled. What happened with David and Bathsheba? BEFORE that affair and eventual marriage…David was already married to a woman named Abigail (therefore YES…like Gabe, David committed adultery with Bathsheba who was also married to another man). Long story short, the result of that adultery…CURSES. The Lord allowed it to be that David and Bathsheba lost their first baby because of that ONE sin and David had much grief come upon him and his family just because of that ONE sin. Their marriage was never approved of or blessed by God. In finality, there are 3 Reasons in the Bible that God accepts divorce between married people… 1) Adultery (Matt. 19:9), 2) Abandonment (1 Cor. 7:15), and 3) Abuse

Yeah, she needs to run far away from that dude. She also has her own stuff to work out and will probably be better in the end.

Trina said she wants a God fearing man but then lists all the reasons why a relationship with that kind of man wont work (what she will continue to do and not do) *confused face*

Trina, Trina, how can you ask for a God fearing man?   If you still like to smoke, drink and do other stuff, you really don’t need that type of man.  Now, there are some men out there who wear the label as a Christian, but smoke, curse, drink and do everything under the sun.  That is the type of man you should be considering not a God fearing man who is sincerely and honestly trying to live right for God.  Yes, you can pray (and prayer does work) that Gabe continues counseling, you have to make sure it is the properly counseling, but the bottom line is that Gabe has to make the decision if he really in his heart want to be delivered and set free from addiction.

Trina has become my favorite of the sisters although they’re all sweethearts.  Trina, don’t leave your husband if you’re still in love with him.  Dude really seems like he’d be lost without you.  But on the same note, don’t let anyone clip your wings;  fly so you can keep on being fly.

That’s the dumbest advice I’ve ever heard (“…don’t leave your husband if you’re still in love with him.  Dude really seems like he’d be lost without you.”). No one should stay in a marriage just because one person can’t get by without the other. And love does not trump respect, and there was a lot of disrespect going on there. That’s why too many women are in bad marriages and are miserable, because “I love him,” even though the actions don’t support the words.

I agree she should not leave him, don’t ever think God can’t take your husband to a new level, I have seen it happen with one of my friends and to God be the Glory they are happily married.  We all make mistakes and if you get another one it can only happen again.  So trust God to fix the wrong and make it right.
