Spinning class may have just become a woman’s worst enemy.

More specifically, the traditional bike seat we sit on as we cycle our way through such workouts may be affecting our sexual health. Previous studies have shown that those hard seats are linked to erectile dysfunction in men, but now women are at risk, too.

Here’s the problem: When we sit on a bike seat, the nerves and blood vessels in our genital area get compressed. Researchers at Yale already knew that female cyclists had less genital sensation than female runners (based on a 2006 study). They hypothesized that these bike-riding ladies, then, thanks to the aforementioned seat design, were at risk for sexual problems.

    Wooo @ these comments. I’m honestly not sure whether or not this article is true but I still don’t think the intention was to give black women another excuse not to exercise. It’s only SPINNING. I mean most of us that do exercise don’t use that as our primary form of exercise anyway. There are so many options. Get over yourselves.

      It’s not just about SPINNING. I know there are plenty of things you can do to stay fit. Pain comes with EVERY workout. It’s supposed to hurt some otherwise why bother?? It’s about building a TOLERANCE to the pain of exercise and growing to enjoy it and not b**tching out completely because of feeling a little fire. Go hard or go home!

        this article isn’t about muscle pain, or exhaustion, or even mental pain. this is specifically about the seats on those bikes and why they are not made for the human genital area. I honestly look forward to the times we stand on our bikes in spinning. fortunately, on the flip side there are seat cushions that can be purchased for this (if you are someone who insists on spinning for cardio)

          It’s also about building a tolerance. If you only take a spin class now and then, your always going to hurt down there lol. If you only take a spin class once in a blue moon,you will never build that tolerance. I teach spin classes as a side job and let me tell you if you stay consistent you will NOT feel it anymore.

Obesity and health problems are RAMPANT in our community as it is and shes going to put up this bullshit so people can have even more excuses to not work out?? There are ATHLETES working out and doing their sport with prosthetic legs! NO EXCUSES!!
