Trayvon Martin Update: Zimmerman’s Bail Set at $150,000, Parents Refuse to Meet With Him

Yesterday, Trayvon Martin’s parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, refused to meet with George Zimmerman privately as the neighborhood watchman arrested for killing their son had requested. At a press conference in Tampa, FL, the parent’s lawyer, Benjamin Crump said that the night before the shooter could possibly be granted bond, was “not the time” for Zimmerman to speak with them and he doesn’t expect that conversation to happen in the foreseeable future:

“Some crimes on their face are non-bondable offense. Second-degree murder is one of them,” Crump said. “We didn’t just demand an arrest to have George Zimmerman give the police his fingerprints and his mug shot.”

There’s no telling how the family feels now after a hearing this morning granted Zimmerman a $150,000 bail in connection with his second-degree murder charge. According to The New York Times:

“Judge Kenneth R. Lester Jr., said that Mr. Zimmerman could have no contact with Mr. Martin’s family and no access to alcohol or firearms and that his movements would be monitored electronically. Judge Lester also set a curfew that would require Mr. Zimmerman to remain at home from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. and require him to check in with the authorities every three days”

Zimmerman will not be released from jail until the proper security measures are put in place since the shooter has received death threats and his family members testified that they would assume responsibility for his whereabouts when he is released from jail. Trayvon’s parents didn’t show much emotion in court and left shortly before the hearing ended. Zimmerman apparently didn’t have much reaction to the news either and he offered this apology to Trayvon’s parents early in the hearing:

“I wanted to say I am sorry for the loss of your son. I did not know how old he was. I thought he was a little bit younger than I am. I did not know if he was armed or not.”

Whether Trayvon was 17 or 27 doesn’t justify the killing.

What do you think about Zimmerman’s bail?

he is so full of it! he said in his apologie he didn’t know Trayvon was so young but if you listen to the tape, he sid that Trayvon looks like he is in his late teens… this man is a walking contradiction…

  • FromUR2UB

I bet he’ll end up in Texas.  White people running from something always hide out in Texas.

  • Nitty

He may be set free but he ain’t free.
God is watching and let God be the judge
Everyone that has knowingly tried to not let this man pay for what he did,God is watching.
    RIP Trayvonn..

As much as I hate to say it the bond was too high. Based on the PCA I think this case has little chance of making it to trial. The judge allowed the state to save some face by setting it at 150g. By all rights it should have been a PR bond. No matter what happens my prayers are with the Martins. Violence is never the answer.

This is STILL a travesty!!  He blatantly disobeyed police orders and therefore should have been charged with FIRST DEGREE MURDER!!!  A black man’s life is STILL not worth anything in AmeriKKKa!

Look at his crazy azz…he looks like a stoned cold killer, hell naw  cause if it were my child, the only way I’d be meeting  this psycho is to be sending him to meet his maker (SATAN)!

so that will make Satan your maker too because you will be a murder, and yours will be out of hate, bitterness, anger, and unforgiven. those bare not attributes of God. what make you better if you kill him? For the better is not your it the lord.

So you can just decide you don’t like a person, in this case a teenager, walking down streets YOU DON’T OWN, chase him down (literally), allegedly fight with him then pull out your gun and murder him? Did I miss anything? 150k bond is a joke I’ve seen them hold ppl in prison until trial for stealing a loaf of bread in Florida of all places. How is open murder a 150k bond?

  • A.J.

What an empty, senseless apology.  And he still isn’t taking responsibility for what he did.  What was with that bit about the age?  Frankly, I don’t think he should be let out on bond at all; his family supports him 110%, and don’t see what he did wrong.

Is anyone really surprised at the outcome? When Zimmerman is set free (which we all know he will be) it really doesn’t matter, because his life is shattered, it’s a wrap for him because God’s moral law will convict him in the end. I will take comfort in that.

RIP Trayvon, sleep with the angels baby…

Hate to see what next, which we all know and I so will not b following up this circus. sad, sad, sad. waste of time, money, taxs, and surely a waste of time for the family who has endured, loss, pain, and suffering. haven’t had time to breath or grieve. due to injustice, media frenzy, lies, speculations, its just a another case of a guilty man walking free. S.M.H.

accidental or not, scare tactic or defense, zimmer guilty, he stalked, harrased, he pursed chase, not follwing authorites orders to back off. shot a unarmed guman, black, white, albino, yellow, purple, green, male, female, regardless he is guilty.

    such a cold world.

  • Melissa

Double standard, I’ve said it from the beginning. If the races were reversed he would have already been tried and convicted by an all white jury

    • L-Boogie

      Totally agree!

    • Mshatahnya

      I agree
