Oh No She Didn’t: Tyra Banks Fires Jay Manuel, Nigel Barker, and J.Alexander from ANTM

If you are one of those people who watched “America’s Next Top Model” from the very beginning, you’ve probably heard of Jay Manuel, Nigel Barker and J. Alexander. Miss J, with his shiny and long legs, taught many of the contestants how to walk and was a judge, Nigel Barker, with his accent and good looks, was a photographer and judge, and Jay, with his beach blonde hair, was the creative director, helping the contestants through challenges. With the exception of Barker (who stays pretty mellow), the men were pretty entertaining and helped make the show a hit for all of these years, as they were with it since ANTM started in 2003. The panel of men were informed yesterday that their contracts wouldn’t be renewed for Cycle 18, and this is what Banks had to say about it on her Facebook page, according to US Weekly:

“To my Nigel Barker, Miss J, and Mr Jay: Thank you for all of our years together on America’s Next Top Model.  Working with you is always an absolute pleasure. Excited for what the future holds for us.”

and Executive Producer Ken Mok had this to say to US:

“”Nigel Barker, Jay Manuel and J. Alexander have been an integral part of the America’s Next Top Model brand and they helped turn this show into the household name it is today. They have been amazing assets to the show and will always be a part of the Top Model family. We will continue to actively work with each of them on future projects.”

The way Banks and Mok talk, you never know, she could have bigger things planned for the trio. But still, the show won’t be as interesting without them (and to be honest, it hasn’t been that exciting for a few years). We’ll miss them, especially Miss J’s crazy behind. But if they add RuPaul, I’m all in!

    With lines like “Contracts won’t be renewed” is a little different than saying someone was fired. We don’t know the whole story behind it and when it comes to things like contracts there’s always an expiration date involved. Maybe they didn’t want their contracts renewed who knows. But you never know this could probably be a step to letting them all go off and do their own thing, maybe having their show and being their own boss. All good things must come to an end and I feel that Miss J, Jay Manuel, and Nigel have much notoriety from ANTM to be very successful on their own without being under Tyra’s name.

    News Alert: no-name models do not sell magazine covers-celebrities do! Even Anna Wintour has admitted this. This is why all the fashion magazines show Beyonce and Jennifer and Rihanna and such. Tyra should take the Oprah route and end the show on a high note.

       Or she could turn the show into “America’s Next Top Star” and hire actresses, singers, etc. as panel judges to turn wannabe talents into stars. Lol you know Tyra needs that check.

      WHAT does this even mean?? None of the THREE ARE NO NAMES. What do you know about the fashion industry if you think that THE J’s & Nigel are no names?? SERIOUSLY!!

       Not even well known models sell magazines anymore. The “super model” is dead it seems, and it kind of sucks

    I stopped watching this years ago. It got old, the photos have all been done in some form or another and last week I saw one of the winners in either an H&M online catalog or Love Culture catalog. Top Model??? I think NOT. I havent seen any of the girls on any top magazines. Lisa did Celebritiy Rehab which was entertaining and the first one married a Brady, also entertaining to watch. The thrill is gone for me. sorry. but I love all of them.

      No we aren’t. They make the show. SHE NEEDS THEM. Hopefully she does have something planned for them. CAUSE I THINK IT’S A HORRIBLE MOVE!

    Nigel Barker fine butt  and Miss J’s crazy butt was the reason why I watched the show in the first place. BOO TYRA!!!

    After the season with Jade, I stopped watching ANTM. Some of the girls you see around on different shows and maybe some print work but there really hasn’t been one model from ANTM that has dominated the fashion industry. Even with different ads like L’oreal and Covergirl they are being contracted with singers and actress.

      DUH, HONEY!! If you hadn’t noticed, EVEN THOUGH SEVERAL of the winners have the look… Tyra isn’t hardly gonna pick anyone that could give her some competition. THAT’S Why A lot of the discarded contestants SHOULD HAVE made it MUCH FURTHER!! But HELL to the NIZZAW, Tyra ain’t having that!

    I am a ANTM fanatic. But getting rid of Nigel and the Jays is wrong. I think the new judge is a bitter crotchety woman and needs to go! I don’t even know her name. Bring back Andre, Nigel, and Miss J.

    I stopped watching after around cycle 6 ……i used to love it but it became too cliche & gimmicky. I wish them all luck though.

    I’ve watched the show from the beginning and to be honest, they really should let the whole show go altogether. It hasn’t really been that interesting. For the last couple of years. After a point In time all reality shows get really boring. I.e jersey shore for example.

    I don’t think there is bad blood between them..they all spoke friendly on Twitter today…although I could be wrong…never know what’s going on behind the scenes..but if I were them, I’d be ready to leave that show.. I’m sure they wanna do they’re own thing at this point.
