Roc Nation Singer Rita Ora Covers “Say My Name” And Talks Emulating Rihanna’s Success

At a Cartier event last week, Roc Nation singer Rita Ora decided to show some love to her boss’s wife by serenading the crowd with a cover of the Destiny’s Child classic, “Say My Name.” Bey and Jay were in the crowd for the performance (of course, somewhere VIP and not really with the crowd), and I’m sure Ora was feeling the pressure. For me, there were a few times where she was singing the song especially hard (and a bit too loud). She definitely got off to a rough start, but I think that by the end, she pulled it together and did a pretty good job. As most people who listen to covers would say, I would definitely prefer to listen to the original, but she did a pretty good job. Check out the video of her rendition of the track and let us know what you think of Ora’s performance below.

What do you think?

And on a sidenote, Ora addressed the claims that she is trying to be the next Rihanna, will be the next Rihanna, is trying to take her spot, etc. In an interview with The Guardian, she had the following to say:

“I don’t think there will be a next Rihanna, but I think [Jay-Z] definitely sees me as someone who could be as big as Rihanna. She’s a superstar now, but they first knew her as a small-island girl – and they want to repeat that success.”

Well, it took a good while for Rihanna to be as big as she is now, so Ora better be ready to work hard and be patient if she’s trying to emulate Ri’s success.

I think she gave a great answer to the copycat question.  Kudos.  And I like her voice, it’s kind of better than RiRi’s…

I feel sorry for black girls in the UK.  They cannot make it in the UK, ad and now USA music moguls jump through hoops to sign eastern european blondes.

not to be stuck on color but…why didnt he go with someone else browner…i mean Rhianna is also light skinned…. now he found someone who has her style dont deny it when rhianna dyed her hair blonde  those 2 did look alike….at the end of the day i think he shouldve went completely opposite of Rhianna….he shouldve found a Whitney Houston type young chick and built her career up…not a replica of Rhianna…it isnt going to work…Rhianna is a superstar and if he thinks this chick is going to be another Rhianna him and her are wrong idc if Rhianna cant sing and this chick can she still isnt going to get bigger then rhianna unless JAy z calls all the radio stations and tells them not to play Rhianna songs and only play rita ora…..i dont even like Rhianna anymore but at the end of the day she worked her butt off to get where she is and she isnt leaving anytime soon…Jay Z doesnt know what he is doing…she looks like TAylor swift, and all the other generic singers they all blond or coloring there hair…even if jay z dropped rhianna from roc nation def jam or young money would grab her soo fast her head would be spinning…not going to work…Rhianna better start writing her own songs because i bet he Jay start taking her music away and giving it to this chick…

I personally like rita ora’s sound. Her voice, although audibly different from rihanna’s, has this soulfulness to it, but does seem to favor her in style and audibly in some songs (like R.I.P).  From her interview she seems like a down to earth, sweet person.
