Kidada and Rashida Jones

Years ago, Kidada Jones (right) was the most famous of Quincy Jones’ many children due to her high profile relationship with Tupac Shakur. In recent years, Kidada’s full sister Rashida has become the star of the family, gaining notoriety as a big screen comedic actress.

I knew that woman who played Meagan Good’s sister in a movie I saw a few weeks ago, looked enough like her to be her real sister.   I hadn’t read the credits at the time, but it turns out it was her real sister La’Myia (ok, what’s the apostrophe for, though; it looks like all the letters are there…accent’s not on the first syllable).  They don’t look as much alike on that pic, but in the movie, I could see the familial resemblance.

Mel B’s sister may as well invite the Brother-in-law.  He couldn’t do that if sis didn’t allow it, and it’s not going to help their relationship to exclude the man her sister loves.

I loved the group Isyss that Meagan’s sister, La Myia was in. “Day & Night,” &”Single For The Rest Of My Life,” were hot songs. And Serena also has another sister named Lynn.

The real question: when is Rashida Jones going to play a Black role??

In this day and time, biracial doesn’t mean black anymore.  It means biracial and not having to choose things that are ‘black.’  Its uncomfortable for black people to hear that but that is a consequence of making mixed children now.

I remember her, she was on “What’s Happining Now” She was Raj & Nadine’s adopted daughter

Dear MN editor: the word noteriety comes from the word notorious.  Notorious means to be infamous or known for something bad.  One can be a notorious thief, muderer, or criminal.  Actors aren’t notorious until they do something “bad” other than a movie choice.

Good point.  Nuances in meaning are often overlooked these days in the English language.  Notoriety had always meant recognition for something negative, but even Merriam Webster online suggests that it can be used to describe celebrity.

Merriam Webster also defines the made up word bootylicious.  Although it has no dictionary meaning, in a social context of popular music is does so the word is accounted for in the dictionary.  I think Merriam Webster is suggesting that because of the malapropism of the word notoriety some people will use the word to inaccurately  describe celebrity but words do not change semantically.  For example, hot typically refers to temperature.  In popular culture, hot has a different meaning.  Because the word is used in a new social context has no influence on the word itself.  Notorious and notoriety will always mean infamy even if most people use the word poorly.
